I'm curious as to how many fans on here were cheering for the team back in 1979 vs the younger crowd.

I was just an infant at the time.

Fan since 1975-76. I was 11 years old and the star from my HS team began his career at Rutgers. His name....Rutgers HOFer Abdel Anderson. I was the ball boy for that team and Coach Grasso was a good friend of my Dad's. It is also where I first met Mike Lamberti who has been writing about local HS sports since then...

Littlepage was the original Great Satan to me. So bad it was stunning. He ruined the end of my college years. Then came along Terry Shea and made Littlepage look like just a minion. Then we were hit with a Flood and everything burned to Ash.

But Pike and Schiano are here and I am feeling better than ever.

Was a big Sixers fan. We had this wood chandelier thing in our living/dining room and I'd role up a sock and finger role it into the thing like I was Dr. J or Doug Collins or something. Made up my own leagues and keep track of with stats, etc. Did the same thing with baseball with a tennis ball against the porch. The Phils or Sixers would win more often then not.

We really should have gone to the sweet sixteen that year.
We lost to SJU in the Sweet 16 in 79. Beat Georgetown in first round. Tourney was only 32 teams back then. Was in HS but was a big RU fan

You know you’re right. I meant final 4. Believe Penn went. We would have beaten them

We lost in the Sweet 16. Had we managed to defeat St. John's for the 3rd time that year, we would have faced UPenn in the east regional final for a berth in the FF. We were oh sooo close.

Back then, there was relatively little TV and fans had to beg the local NY stations to televise the game, which one of them (Channel 9?) did. So I recall watching St. John's big man dominate the last few minutes of the game to seal the victory. IIRC, RU led most of the way. Anyone recall if Jammin James was in foul trouble?

I was just reminiscing about the SW Louisiana win (followed by another loss to St. John’s in the tournament). A few of us drove back and forth to Hartford from NB for both games. I was chatting with my friend about it. So long ago the memories get vague.
