I thought 2-5/3-4..... and getting to 3-4 seems like a 50-50. Yes, beating PSU home is a must. How quickly we returned to reality after that hopeful 2-0 start. No reason for it. Just a shame.

We win two games and everyone thinks we should win the rest? Same thing for losses. Half this board thought they wouldn’t win another game in January. The ups and downs here are wild. Most people before the season started thought this team would 5-6 conference games. To me nothing has changed from the original season outlook. Maybe they are 1-2 games worse than originally thought. It wasn’t a good roster to start and it still isn’t.

not sure where you're getting "win the rest" from. It certainly wasn't me. However expecting a split next 2 after solid 2-0 by beating this Wash team at home shouldn't have been unrealistic expectation given what was clearly an upping of play those first two wins. Long term view..yup. But close in trend and quality of play should factor in. The quality of play last 4 has been whiplash with both team and individual play all over the place. The coach even alluded to it in his post presser.

I had higher hopes after the road win at PSU. But my 5-15 prediction is back on track.

i think the reactions is more than just losing the past 2. The games themselves were pretty atrocious especially Minnesota and Washington beat us pretty easilly before a brain fart much like USC did...yeah credit RU for not giving up but overall we were weak in a winnable home game

If you voted for 1-6, you lost!

Man, that first half was a thing of beauty. Sick defense and shots going down on offense. So much more fun when your team looks good, lol.

Ogbole and Lino were awesome. Grant looked like the Grant from the beginning of the season. Zrno, Powers, and Francis did their thing. Even Nwuli looked really good.

Even though Lino was hot, I liked the decision to have the more experienced JMike out there in crunch time. Whether you like Pike or not, all of his substitutions worked out pretty well this time.

Buchanan was hot and cold. He had some dreadful sequences but also had some good moments.

In the beginning of the season, I predicted 5 Big 10 wins. We now have four with plenty of opportunities left. I would love these guys to keep playing well and exceed my expectations. And if they get really hot, they may actually get an invite to the Crown Tournament. Let's see how they look on Saturday.
5 is looking correct

the bipolar nature of this message boards is exhausting and why it makes diagnosing the future of the program during the season impossible because each individual game changes people’s tunes like the wind blows

I’ve been pretty steady since before conference play started this team would win 12-13 games and that’s looking like it will hold true

ask yourself as a fan if it’s reasonable and not complete insanity to feel okay with running it back with mostly the same roster and same staff after having your worst season under a coach in year 10

A bad Year 10 with NO NIL is a much different situation than 4 straight post seasons when NIL wasn’t a thing. Apples and oranges. My major point on this team is… it’s not the coaches. It’s the NIL and the roster. Until that’s fixed nothing else matters.

Come on. The guy won 1....ONE post-season game including a play in game over a mediocre ND team and lost a first round game as #1 seed at home in the NIT. His B1G tourney record stinks too.

Yes it does matter and there are lots of excuses. The nil was really only a big thing the past 2 seasons although it was starting out a year before

Too many excuses

as I posted in the other thread. He's under water in EVRY category no matter how you slice it. Take the first 2 years out, give him the OSU win, In Conf. Out of Conf., in Tourneys doesn't matter when you take out the cupcakes and score him against his peers. Even during those very good years he went 5-8 OOC and 3-6 in the tourneys. It was great because the bar was so low.

By the way with Oregon win over Wisconsin there is now a 4 way tie for 14th-17th place. Luckily RU has the tiebreaker now because they have gone 3-0 vs the other 3 but it puts a lot of pressure on RU to win at Maryland in addition to winning vs PSU and to get to 6 wins.

personally I don't care if we finish 15th or below and have to play first day. I'd rather watch a game we have a chance to win for once in this tourney. He's only won the 1st game once out of the last 4 in this thing. Anyone thinking we're making a run is ....

Pikes never made it past quarters..one year in nyc won 2 games and other time they were got double bye into quarters they were embarrassed by Iowa

Quite awful tourney history

True - but Iowa was on fire and won the whole thing. Thought we could have pulled off Purdue in 2023 but then Caleb phantom fouled out.

Penn State beats Iowa. If RU doesnt win either of next 2. The loser of the Rutgers-Penn State could very well finish 18th depending on other results

I probably would've guessed 3-4 if I had been posting more, as 3-4 gets us to 5-15, which was my preseason prediction. Would love to get 2 more, of course. This team is not very good, but it's a little better than I thought we'd be in early January and there are pieces worth paying $$ to keep, like Francis, Powers and Buchanan, at least.

OK so we have reached my prediction of five conference wins with two more games to play. We took one of those teams to OT (MSU) and beat the other (PSU). So getting a 6th win and avoiding the first round of the B10 tournament is a reasonable possibility. I hope they can do it. While it has been a difficult season, it would be nice to see them exceed my expectations.

Bump

4-3

Congrats to 19% of you
it's 20.5% now. some folks most have waited till after today's game to vote LOL.

I said 3 would get Pike extended which is what she did when he had 3... (extended thru next year lol but I don't think it is the wrong move at this moment. Not where I was 3 weeks ago. )

My preseason prediction was 12-19 (5-15) and we finished 13-18 (6-14). While this season was disappointing relative to the expectation of making the post season, it did exceed my realistic expectations.

Throw in the fact that we swept Maryland and Penn State, and the effort/improvement we saw in the past few weeks, and it almost seems pretty good.

In fairness - I think we would’ve managed to avoid another WTF loss if we still played only an 18 league game schedule and added 2 more cupcakes - plus no players era. So if this was 2017 or 2018 we would likely be no worse than 15-16 and would still have a chance to finish 500. That’s why I don’t think judging next season can be about win count. Need to see what our schedule looks like first.

Our schedule will be charmin soft as usual

Come on you cant just do an exercise adding 2 cupcakes..if you take 2 big 10 games away then it could maryland and penn st and we could be 3-15
