Poll: Most overrated in C1?

My vote is GW, but that's probably Blaster's fault for overhyping their "talent". I kid....

Why is Hurley listed?

Why is Hurley listed?

They got shutout by Grundy and blown out by a very bad Tazewell team. They only managed a close win over Eastern Montgomery, a bottom half Pioneer district team. I think a lot of folks expected them to win the BDD this year and be a Region D contender.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but why post a poll that is designed to criticize the teams in your area? We should be building up the players on this board, not undermining them.

Are we talking "Strictly by the Teams' record" or the totality of the circumstances?

No doubt, "The Fighting Blues" have most definitely fallen short of most's expectations, none more so than their own however, when you take into consideration the size(# of kids(29)on the team) and the fact that they suffered 6 major injuries(ALL STARTERS PLAYING BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL) before the season even started and one during the first game, two of those which were season ending.

As bad is seems/sounds for "The Blues", IMO they have a done a great job just to stay competitive...Understandably, they are still losses, however not the "blowouts" that were expected..

In most all games(except Rockbridge)up to this point, PM has done what they wanted/needed to do to stay "In The Game" so to speak.. Control the line of scrimmage,(Offensively, Defensively) shorten the game for their opponents and lengthen(Control Time of Possession)the game for the Blues..

Fact is, they are just sooo young in certain "vital positions" which in turn has been the demise of the Blues defense(giving up the "BIG PLAY" so to speak at inopportune times)as well as their offense by not being able to convert/score when absolutely necessary...

Bottom Line, IMO even though "The Blues" record DOES NOT, (TO THIS POINT) reflect success, they have absolutely played with every team (and outplayed others) they have faced this season regardless of the W's and L's...

I am well aware that there are several teams in the same situation, and it is what it is however, under these circumstances as a(ANY)TEAM, you just have to GET UP, SHOW UP, DRESS UP and STEP UP and do the best you can with the resources that you have available!! And, even though you (YOUR TEAM) DO YOUR BEST, SOMETIMES YOUR BEST JUST ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH!!!

So, that being said, NO, I DO NOT believe "The Blues" have failed to live up to the "Pre-Season Hype" of the expectations of some(most)or even themselves...

What I do believe, is that this TEAM, these Kids/Coaches as have many others, suffered an insurmountable number of obstacles they just couldn't/maybe can't overcome this season..

"THE BLUES" ARE A GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM!! Wins and Losses do not necessarily define a TEAM as GOOD or BAD.. A TEAM can WIN and still not be that good just as a good TEAM can LOSE and be better than their opponent!!

Probably not what you were looking(asking)for Sir,("obguthr") but that's just my two cents.. And as always, GO BLUES!!!

[obguthr]

I think it is more of a critique of the hype and bluster than the teams themselves. These are all still good teams. Most will still qualify for the playoffs and have a chance to make run at the title.

I read the post wrong. I seen "C1" and thought you meant 1A region C.

But the expectations of Hurley to be good were solely based on their record from last year. You can't graduate Brady Justus and the rest of what they did at a school with less than 200 people and expect to have another district winning season. Not to mention Logan Justus transferring to Richlands who was Hurley's best defensive player last year.

Haha I'll take it and that's my vote to this team had great potential but thus far haven't stepped up when it matters. Now I'm not giving up on them by any means and I hope they haven't either. Galax 6-4=Champions, BB 5-5=Champions so who knows?

[GatorBait1988]

We need to understand the definition of "overrated". It means a team coming in with loads of talent that hasn't lived up to that talent. It's most definitely GW. GW has unreal talent, but just haven't clicked. I don't think PM should be considered in this discussion, because they weren't (or shouldn't have been) projected to do much of anything this year anyway.

GW takes the cake on most underachieving year thus far.
