The ones that are way too far right? Yes.
The ones that are more moderate? No.
You remind me of the Sliders episode when the Professor gets roped into being a candidate in a version of America where he knows nothing about the issues. Forced give a speech to a boisterous crowd he, he proudly intones:
I'm for the good things
And against the bad things

Brave and insightful, amirite?

I know you said this in the dems thread as well, and while you're correct, I do think maga is about far right/alt right extreme as it gets. And they're the Republican party now, and have had the keys to the party for over a decade now

Well, you didn't ask for specific policies, therefore a broad question (Are republicans too far) was awarded a broad answer.

As a general rule, way too far right. There are only a handful of issues they're not nuts on and I can't immediately think of any.

For clarity, there are issues where the stated position isn't completely insane but the demonstrated behaviors are much more insane than the talking points (voter ID, for example).

in its current iteration, there is no "party" - something that represents a broad coalition with differing opinions or stances. there is one and only one thing that determines the position of today's republican party: the personal opinions of donald trump/

the real question should be "is donald trump too far right?"

Is Trump more or less to the right than the GOP? Mixed bag, I think. More corrupt and more crazy don't necessarily translate into more to the right.

Agree. Trump has no ideology. He doesn't even have the cognitive ability to conceive an idealogy. The republicans he brought with him this time, Russell Vought, Hegseth, et al., those are are ideologues.

Jmo, but they've managed to use Trump as a means for the wolves to get back in the henhouse a second time with no guardrails in place. Trump is as expendable to the republican party as anyone else now. If he's not expendable yet, he will be soon It's gonna be a mess when he dies, a power struggle like we've never seen. And not just in the Republican side.

We have elected the worst Americans in America to congress.

10 years ag, i would have agreed with "mixed bag"

but the further along we get, the more his policy (outside of self-enrichment) has turned into simply immigrants bad, aggressive military (both domestically and internationally) good

what are the policies he supports now that pull him to the left?

This is on target. Those who think that Bernie is too far left need to remember that Bernie doesn't dominate the party.

That said, when the DNC and Bernie disagree, Bernie is almost always right. Which is to say that the Dems would be a better party if its progressives had more sway.

The progressives are sometimes better at policy. They're usually worse at politics.

All of the ones the Dems took from him once they found out they were popular. No taxes on tips, capping out credit card interest, tariffs and other made in America type protections.

acknowledged. his economic populism is closer to left wing than right.

i'll reserve judgement on his eagerness to acquire stakes in private companies until we know full details about those "deals". i have a sneaking suspicion that, eventually, those will look like putin-esque "govt stakes" that actually benefit him, not the citizens. i don't think we'll know about that until he's out of office

Republicans used to be fiscal conservatives. They have always been warmongers.

Trump bullies the Republican Party and Republican politicians, and gets away with it. I think a lot of Republican politicians would like to stand up to Trump, but they love their jobs more than their principles.

It's hard to really judge the current GOP on a left-right spectrum. They are too far right on some things and not far enough on others (ex. spending). I view them more on a competence spectrum and consider them abysmal on that.
