Maybe because its the one topic that actually creates activity on the board during the off-season.

Proof?

This thread is 3 pages long.

Otherwise nothing unrelated to football should be allowed.

Because those threads are usually boring and stupid.

Seriously people? Nothing has changed here as far as it is concerned with political and religious posts. I came on here after I got home and saw there were a couple political threads started and locked. Political/religious threads are not allowed here, no matter what. Everyone should know that. I am tired of people pushing the limits on this and there will be zero tolerance for it. For the near future, if we see a political post/thread, the poster will earn a week paid vacation to Chile from me, @rrthusker or @sparky62

If you think your post pushes the limits, don't post it.
My grandmother always told me that there were two things you never discuss with other people “religion and politics”.

What about threads that discuss religion? Is it just politics that is off limits? I'm all for a Merry Christmas or Happy Easter type of thread, but do we really need threads talking about what a great guy somebody is because of his faith in Jesus or God or whatever?

I disagree with Granny. Those two topics need to be discussed. Without the discussion you have blinders on and you don't learn what you don't know about another point of view. Or what is difference between Protestants, Catholic, Presbyterian , Jewish, Agnostic etc.

Discussion yes, argue, NO.

Unfortunately more often than not those discussions turn heated. Thus the no posting of those topics on message boards.

I won't disagree with that. It's too easy to be misinterpreted on a message board and it's too easy to throw darts from behind a blind keyboard.

But face to face, absolutely. That's how we learn from each other
