Quite a few Hawkeyes are competing across the pond this weekend - started off by Macey Kilty’s runner up effort at 62kg today.

Kilty crushed three-consecutive foes by a combined margin of 30-2 to reach the final:
- 2024 Olympian Johanna Lindborg (Sweden)
- 9th place 2025 World Championships finisher Alicja Wojewodzka (Poland)
- European Championships bronze medalist Leistner Naemi (Germany)

But in the final - leading 1-0 against 2022 World bronze medalist Ilona Prokopevniuk (Ukraine) - the match swung just before the break when a seeming stepout for Kilty was overturned upon a challenge, resulting in a 4pt move for her Ukrainian opponent. Kilty would ultimately lose the match, 6-1.

Men’s action gets underway on Saturday with Stephen Buchanan (and former Hawkeye Mo Endene) at 97kg.

Then on Sunday it’ll be real busy, with four Hawkeye alums + a fellow HWC member taking the mat:

- Dean Peterson (57kg)
- Austin DeSanto (61kg)
- Michael Caliendo (74kg)
- Patrick Kennedy (79kg)
- Crew Howard (125kg)

Buchanan lost twice.Kalashnikov beat him 3-1 and he lost to Baranowski 6-5 . Endene has Baranowski in the finals

Howard went 1-3 he beat Bullock and lost 7-3 to Cole Mirasola

Both Buchanan matches were razor close.

He led Baranowki - a 2x Olympian and 8x World teamer (5th in 2025) - 3-0 early in the second, then gave up a go-behind and an exposure off his own shots + an ankle pick.

As for the second loss to Kalashnokov - a 4x World teamer who placed 15th at 92kg last year - let’s just say that some ‘curious’ officiating played a major part in the result.

Buchanan led 1-0 at the break on a shot clock point, then trailed 1-1 on criteria after getting put on the clock himself early in the 2nd. Despite being the far more offensive wrestler, Buchanan was put on the clock again with 0:49 remaining - and still had Kalashnikov in quad pod with 0:06 left but couldn’t break him down before time expired.

(A YOLO challenge brick made the final score 3-1.)

Schaefle Germany wrestled at Buffalo 2019-20 as a true freshman he was 21-9 and was 9-8 D1. He beat 3 time NQ Cory Day and 2 time NQ Jared McGill. He had never wrestled folkstyle before and did well. He's a talented kid

Caliendo (74kg) has reached the final - where he’ll face SR World Team rep James Green.

DeSanto (61kg) and Kennedy (79kg) will go for bronze.

Peterson (57kg) won his first bout, but was seemingly knocked unconscious moments into his second. He was helped off with the assistance of medical personnel and did not wrestle again.

Caliendo falls via 2-0 decision in the finals to James Green.

Green scored an early takedown that held up as the winner, though I thought Mikey grew into the match nicely after the break.

Meanwhile, Patrick Kennedy picks up an impressive 9-0 win to secure bronze at 79kg:
