The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team continued its winning ways a few hundred miles from home, claiming the championship of the Drummond Bank-Cedar Key School Beach Ball Tournament in Cedar Key, Fla. this week.

The Fighting Blues (8-1) defeated a pair of Florida schools in the event, downing Branford 73-33 on Wednesday behind 17 points from Hannah Craft and then blitzing Fort White 74-9 in Thursday's championship, where Peyton Mohler poured in 19 points.

More details are posted at thenews-gazette.com, and we'll have a full story on the Blues' victories in our Dec. 28 newspaper.

How did PM get involved in this tournament? Did they realize the competition was not up to their standards, I'm mean a 65-point win in a championship game is ridiculous

i feel confident they didn't know that going in. Impressive wins though. Heck unless they were playing little league teams that's playing ball. PM is sophomore loaded to say the least. I think they have 8 or 9 sophomores, 2 Juniors and 1 senior. Looks like they going to be around for a while.

Why go all the way to Florida to play teams like that. Who benefited from those games, other than a nice mini vacation for everyone. Not very impressive at all. I would rather go down and lose both games by 5 points or less than win like that. Losing close games will pay off in the long run, rather than beating teams that badly.

I agree with your view . The PM team seems full of youth and promise but their schedule seems way to easy. I have to compare them to narrows. Both narrows and PM will not get better playing teams like that.

GW lost to a very good LB team last night. I wasn't able to attend but was told LB was much better than we thought. That's a good thing. That will help our girls learn.
