If nothing else works, pharmaceuticals can definitely make a difference, but I'd agree with others here regarding turning to your faith, as well as eating right, exercising, etc.

I haven't seen anyone suggest this yet, but turn off the news if you watch it regularly. Turn off political talk radio. Stop reading the newspaper or online news sources. Regardless of the source, these days it's all fear-based whether it's from the right or left, and fear leads to anxiety. How can you constantly see or read about high inflation, high gas prices, the border, fentanyl, Russia/Ukraine, nukes, WWIII, etc. and not get anxious?

Same for social media. If you're on Facebook or Twitter, stop getting on them, or at least unfollow sources of the kind of info listed above. Social media also tends to have lots of arguing and insults, including here on Rafters. It's amazing how uninhibited we can be with our nastiness when we're not face to face with someone. Seeing all this uncivil behavior can contribute to depression. There's just so much animosity and ugliness - how can you read it every day and come away with a positive, happy feeling?

Don't think anyone has posted this yet, Matthew 6:25-34:

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Man great post here as many others are but this one is very true social media can take a big tole on people and especially those struggling with these types of issues. Love the verses you dropped as well and to the OP I will keep you in my prayers stay strong brother. King Solomon was blessed with possessions and much wisdom so there is much we can gather from his writings about how we should approach this life and the mortal state we are in right now. The kingdom to come is far greater and will be worth any suffering we go through in this life.

I’ve struggled for years with anxiety and depression but have done well with it over the past 4-5 years for the most part. For the past couple months, it has crept back up on me. I’ve noticed my thoughts have went back to the depressed version of me. The dark and deep places in my mind I prayed I wouldn’t never visit again, well I’m back there. I’m a Christian and believe in the power of prayer! Please pray for me!
Stay strong and healthy, my fiend.

Praying for everyone suffering from anxiety as it is an obstacle but not one that Christ cannot handle. Casting all of those cares on Him and releasing them in the power of Jesus’ name helps me.

I also agree with exercising and maintaining a healthy weight can minimize frustration and self doubt. Take up a hobby that draws on your gifts and volunteer at a homeless shelter or food pantry - focusing on others will help you to understand more about yourself. Develop a thankful, positive attitude and rest secure in the love that God has for you…

You need to see a doctor. Modern medicine does wonders. I've been on zoloft for 2 years. I came out of the depths of hell.

I tried to get meds after my dad passed away and had them tell me that I hadn’t had anything of significance happen in my life for me to need anything. I lost my 8 year old niece to cancer, lost my grandma and my dad all in a few year period and they still told me that. I started smoking weed right after that and still do smoke from time to time. Only thing I’ve found to calm me down that I feel safe taking.

Disagree with Mike above. Medicine isn’t always the answer. Offer stands if you’d like to I’m available. I’m glad you’re positive today however finding out why the issue persist could be very helpful. Hope you have a good one.

I appreciate it greatly brother! I’m in better spirits today and gonna enjoy this beautiful day God blessed us with. I’m not suicidal anymore, I just get myself in these holes trying to put everyone else and their needs before mine. The hours I work has taken a toll on me mentally. I know I’m not the only one that struggles, so if you’re reading this and struggling too, please reach out. If you don’t feel comfortable reaching out to me, you can see in this thread, they are many good people who care about you and willing to talk. I may be a butt head sometimes on here but I can say, I love this board and the members on it. Even if we don’t see eye to eye, I still care about you and I’m here to talk anytime.

I tell ya man, I used to battle anxiety. I had sleep issues that drove me crazy and made it worse. Still not perfect but I cleaned up my diet (I eat mostly meat and little carbs) and started lifting weights again. It improved my mood dramatically, it changed my life.

ill pray for you but try improving diet, walking daily, and 20-25 minutes of doing some weight training 4-5 days a week and see if things improve

God didn’t make humans to be sick and weak and depressed. He made us to be strong and healthy. You can get over this

I agree. Flip the food pyramid upside down and eat meat and animal fats. Avoid seed oils and certain plants; they contain self defense toxins. There are multitudes of testimonials of all kinds of mental problems being reversed. We've all been lied to for the past 50+ years. Follow the money.

Prayers to you man. I’m still fighting the battle myself. It’s hard. Just know that just because we are promised joy and unending peace that doesn’t exempt us from trial. I struggle with that is the only reason I bring that up. There are some among our brother and sisters that think Christian’s should never experience depression (I’ve been told this personally) but that’s just not true. We aren’t exempt from that just as we aren’t exempt from any other disease.

Message me if you need or want to talk. I’ve been there. I know it sucks. You’re loved and we want you to be here with us to root on our Cats!

Just remember you’re not blessed because everything is going right. You’re blessed because you have a strong will and fight. And I understand how difficult it can be. And I don’t know you’re except situation but rest when you need it. Take time off work if you need it. Take time from here if you need it. Prioritize you right now. It’s okay to not be okay. And we appreciate you telling us you’re not okay! I know that’s not

Whatever you need, just give us a shout and we will do our best within ourselves to help.

Prayers and hugs Big Blue Brother./Sister.

They do but here’s how to avoid. Eat 6 eggs and half a lb of bacon from a local farmer if you can. Lunch time, eat 1lb of grass fed, grass finished ground beef with salt. Dinner, eat a ribeye with salt or just more ground beef (I usually eat 5-6 burgers at a time) Cook with butter or ghee. If you need a snack, eat some cheese or better yet, carnivore crisps.

99% of your problems will be resolved in a month or two.

you’re welcome, I’ve done what dieticans and doctors don’t want you to know. Sick people and those that need monthly prescriptions = money

Bingo. I wouldn’t listen to anyone who is profiting from your troubles. They’ll love to medicate you. Most problems can be fixed

As I said in the thread that was moved to the paddock, this is true imo. Some of us in the mental health field are advocates of medicine and administer it quickly, others like me want to examine every angle possible before that.

My opinion is no one should take medicine until they’re gone through EBP’s of mental health / psychotherapy to make sure the issue isn’t past trauma’s because I’ve found with many clients that they didn’t need medicine, they needed help finding a way to deal with past trauma. Once we got there many felt well and did well.

Also I find that many people misunderstand life in general imo. I can’t count how many times you’ll have people self diagnosing and “needing” medicine for forms of depression when the issue was they don’t realize, quite simply, you’re not supposed to feel good everyday. It’s hard to believe but there are many people that simply don’t understand that.

In my estimated guess from seeing these issues play out, it wouldn’t surprise me if maybe 1/10 that seek help actually need medication.

I think the number of professionals that want to examine all the angles before pushing a pill is quite low

and then on top of that, as you said, many patients come in wanting a magic pill. Oh big pharma likes that.

our biggest issue is nutrition. Raised on McDonald’s chicken nuggets, corn dogs, and Trix cereal then we’re outraged we have a mental health crisis in this country?

and now the whole education system is woke idiots telling your kindergartner that gender is fluid?

we’re literally breeding fat, lazy, weak left idiots. And then we play the shocked card when someone is depressed.

and now everyone that’s skinny is fatphobic and the pink haired, septum pierced obese monsters are “healing their traumatic past with food” didn’t you know fat people are now anorexic?

you couldn’t pay me enough to deal with those idiots. Eat garbage, get depressed, get pills, blame your thyroid, take to Tiktok, vote blue. Ignorant society we have

okay that’s off my chest now. How are you?

Lots of truth here. Society is breeding weakness and it’s affecting people in all walks. And I don’t mean weakness as in your dad beat you deal with it. That causes real trauma because the fight or flight as a child manifests as a over powering protective response as adults. Sometimes medicine can help in ways, but many times you’re only thinking it’s helping so it does. I also agree big Pharm loves the leftist push to victimize everyone and then to stand behind political tactics and shield themselves with social media it’s real.

Essentially, Big Pharm is causing damage but as long as they support “identity politics” they’re shielded. Continue on. It’s also why people inside of the department of justice and the FBI aren’t in prison right now. Just stand behind the woke mob online and continue on.

Logs of issues America needs to grapple with but on the therapy front medicine can help if it’s needed. If it’s not it can make your condition far worse. And yea unfortunately. Many in my field are very quick to - diagnose a condition - label - medicate. And I know some psychotherapist that do it mainly because they get off on being able to. Makes them feel important.
