Coach Pike likes to use the phrase being "locked in". It especially pertains to this particular Rutgers Hoops team. When we play "locked in" or concentrate 100% on playing hard defense, we show great promise and are able to get easy transition baskets.
Of course it is also much better when we are hitting shots when running our half court offense, but that does not happen all the time, as we are only an average shooting team.
BUT, What can happen 90% of the time is playing hard on defense which can translate to many victories. Just look at the Pittsburgh and St. Bonny games as when our defense played hard for 20 seconds of the shot clock and then we "let" up the next 10 seconds. We CAN NOT do that. Sure, St. Bonaventure hit many 3's, but many were not contested.
When we play "locked in" defense, we will continue to move onward and upward. The future starts to look brighter and brighter when we play real solid defense every possession.
Best of Luck,
Groz
