I may be wrong on this, but didn't all this start when we started allowing agents around campuses, forcing coaches to communicate with players through their little "camps"? If they're going to unionize, then perhaps make the players sign contracts saying that they must stay in college (on the same team) for two years, and if they break the contract, then they will forfeti half of their G League / NBA / overseas pay?I can't see college athletics surviving. The lines are going to continue to be blurred to the point where you won't see the difference between collegiate sports and a professional organization.

The union will end up protecting the worst of the workers. Trust me, I’ve seen so many people at UPS that needed to be fired and it took years to finally get thru the union to do it. One dude was on so much Xanax and oxy he fell asleep the entire shift and when he was awake he mis-sorted every package the entire night. There were bins full of packages in every area full of things that had to be re sorted. I agree, teachers unions are the worst.This may not be popular here, but I do not think it should be legal for public sector employees to unionize (The main current union this would mean is public school teachers unions), and basically threaten government programs. I assume since many of the NCAA colleges are public this would be a similar situation and I am completely against it. I do not want some union putting a strike to college sports because they aren't getting enough tax payer money no thank you.
I think that if the NCAA isn't going to do its job (and it really hasn't IMO), then just tell them "you either completely return college athletics to what it used to be (scholarships and GETTING A JOB), or we're walking away from you to embrace this mess as we see fit. Will the university have any say, like this isn’t worth it to us because I assume Dartmouth isn’t taking in tons of cash from men’s basketball so what if they cancel the program?What would be the benefit of forming a union when they are not employees? If they have a grievance, who do they go to? Who would they negotiate with for better working conditions and/or benefits?

I used the union once for one thing in 10 years. I represented myself because my union rep was a company shill. If you’re a decent employee you don’t need them. They do have a place and I’m not trying to make them out as evil. I just believe that in today’s time with all employment laws that they aren’t needed like they were when the country was being built and 13 year olds were doing hard labor.
