Players claim Petersen has turned us down....

you heard it here first......very credible.

[MSUCostanza]

that you are correct, but that he is still in the process of "being convinced".

We shall see. After the convo I had today, I feel very confident that we will make a hire everyone is happy with, including me.

[merkin2]

Costanza - Please elaborate....

[was21]

but that is good stuff on a boring Monday evening...keep up the good work.

[TBonewannabe]

Is he set on waiting for Oregon or a job around there?

[was21]

committe.

[DogStuckAtUM.sixpack]

but I'm going with Costanza. I'm hearing that though he is leaning towards staying, he is waiting til Saturday's games play out. After that he'll know if Boise is going to the Fiesta or a lame bowl cause they are mid-majors. Though the Fiesta is an extremely outside shot (and they deserve to go), it'll solidify that he could continue to build at Boise. If he ends up at the Poinsettia or Emerald, he knows he'll never get a fair shake at Boise. Plus, he is drumming up even more money.

[MSUCostanza]

My source has just gleaned from conversations with Byrne that he is totally committed to making an impact hire and elevating our status in the football world. He gets the sense that GB's looking toward proven head coaches looking to move up to a BCS school or proven coordinators at big-time schools.

I would hesitate to rule Petersen out completely, but it's looking like a 20/80 shot right now.

[Coach34]

you heard it hear first......very credible.

when most of us knew damn good and well he didnt...Now you may be right, and you still arent as bad as Dawg77 or whatever his name is...Lots can happen in the next few days...hell, Miles had agreed to go back to Michigan and look how that turned out...Lots of calls to be made and decisions to think out

[bulldogbaja]

if Croom had agreed to clean house, he would still be our coach?

[MSUCostanza]

He did resign. He was strongly encouraged to overhaul the staff, and he agreed sort of, but refused to abandon his "philosophy". Ergo, he quit.

[Dawg in a pile]

This guy sits next to Carlson in a class or something on that level. He announces something here about once a week that he heard from whatever player he bugs the **** out of and is wrong 90% of the time. The players don't know anything about who we are looking at in the coaching search or who has turned us down.
Edit: reply was meant for was21.

[bonedaddy401]

to who I talked to I went back on what I said publically. Just sayin'......

[Coach34]

Crooms wanted to be the coach next year, we gave him stipulations to stay and he couldnt live with those...its basically a firing and everybody knows it...Bobby Ross isnt whining about him needing more time for nothing

[Optimus Prime 4]

[No message]

.Wouldn't expect anything else from a former boss/ co-worker./ friend.

but Croom DID have the option of staying. And had Ole Miss not hung 45,000 on us, he might have only had to get rid of OC and ST.
I said Croom wouldn't be fired, but would be forced to make staff changes. I said that who knows what he will do after that. I maintain that I was right. Of course, I thought that when it came down to it, he would can Woody... I was wrong there.
95% of the national sports media (which is basically Sportcenter and PTI) is reporting that he resigned. So, resign he did.

[dawgmaster]

If it is true that he would not change philosophy and try something else, that is just crazy. Why would it have been so hard for him to make changes? Hell , Jackie Sherrill changed offensive and defensive co-ordinators almost every couple of years. That is what you have to do at the SEC level to be successful at MSU. Just sayin...

And Clayton Moore will be the next starting qb at East Central Community College due to his stubborness. just sayin...

[BR549.sixpack]

[slickdawg]

Offer him a 4-year at $2.5MM, guaranteed. The only "out" clause if he gets us in NCAA trouble.

[vandaldawg]

all spout the same ********. You can trust what they say about has far as you can throw their offensive lines. Especially when they are in post-season. They rock the party line until after the bowl game and then the language at the press conferences subtly changes and then, all of a sudden, they announce the hire that wasn't supposed to happen.

I'm not saying Petersen is coming here, because, like the rest of you, I have no damn clue. But I do know enough to not believe one goddam word they say in public.

[vandaldawg]

of Croom if that is what happened. He could have run the damn spread option and called it West Coast or Pixie Fairy dust or whatever. It's interesting in Murray's article where he basically says that Croom realized 2 years ago the WCO wouldn't work, but felt painted into a corner with the scheme due to going down the road too far with the scheme and coordinators.

It seems to me he would have been quicker to junk the scheme before junking coordinators. Just saying.

Everybody thought Woody would be the sticking point for Croom, and what you are saying makes it sound like the scheme was. Wierd.

[benatmsu]

You can trust what they say about has far as you can throw their offensive lines.

Is that Croom Offensive line, or a regular SEC school Offensive line?

[TR.sixpack]

who our next coach would be. Hell, Tyler Russell will know before Tyson Lee!

[bonedaddy401]

believe me the players are being kept in the loop in all of this.

[Mjoelner]

name mentioned lastnight when I spoke with the relative of a player about their meeting with Byrne yesterday.

[bonedaddy401]

but fat Phil will take I year off I think. One thing is for sure..... Chris is staying in Idaho.

[TR.sixpack]

The last way to do that is tell a bunch of 18-22 year olds. I'm sure Byrne is keep lines of communication open, but I doubt they know much more than we do.

[Stormrider81]

You can't keep things quiet like Byrne wants and tell a bunch of college students. They probably hear the same rumors we do, but they are not in on the loop.

I wish some folks would excercize a little common sense before posting things.

[patdog]

The players will find out who the new coach is when the rest of us do. Possibly an hour or two before but no more.

[bonedaddy401]

but the fact is certain admins on this board will back me up on this. I could care less if you believe me, I just put it out there because 1. It's true 2. I thought people might find it interesting 3. This coaching search is a big deal.

There are always doubters here on in the Six Pack but that won't and has never stopped this place from being one of/the best spots to find breaking news about MsState.

I know we all wanted Petersen but it ain't happening.

[dawgfan77]

The Swan is staying Petersen is no longer a candidate.

[graddawg]

The Swan is staying Petersen is no longer a candidate.

If that's the case he's probably accepted our offer and in the process of placing the For Sale sign in front of his house in Boise.

[bonedaddy401]

The Swan is staying Petersen is no longer a candidate.

I wanted him too. Oh well.

[graddawg]

I doubt we get Petersen and he may very well be out of the running, but are you really citing Gene as proof that you're right?

[patdog]

Hell, Veazey reported that Petersen told him he was staying at Boise St. I guess being "in the loop" doesn't require any more effort than reading Veazey's blog.
