I am guessing this will derail at some point but I am hoping to get some insight. Cal **** his bed years ago with the fan base but the players loved him but now the players are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship. Anyone have any insight as to what the common complaint the players are having?

I think one of the problems is that Cal has made it all about the NBA.If a player here doesn't leave after a year here the kid considers it a tragedy.

I didn’t specify where they are going nut hugger. There are plenty of examples of guys that transferred over the years that were good enough to play here.

^ This. Over 1500 players entered the portal this year. That's averaging like 4 per D-1 team. At some point, they may as well just let coaches trade players. Trade you my PG for your PF and kick in 10K in NIL.

The op wasn’t to troll, I was really wondering if players are tired of Cal or if it’s more of a system wide issue. The problem is I don’t see other blue bloods with empty cupboards.
Personally I think the reasons I listed apply to the majority of transfers. Some probably boil down to bad fits with culture or poor relationships with coaching and staff.
UKs lack of ability or desire to pull in more players to fill the scholarships falls upon one man though.

I dont really know. A quick google showed that over 1600 entered in 2021. There are a lot of didffernt reasons players enter. More NIL, more playing time, unhappy where they are, coach is too hard on them and they can't take it. It's endless.

We gotta wait and see who stays or goes but it’s starting to look like this transfer issue is going to be a problem all over college basketball. Kids aren’t waiting for their turn anymore like they did traditionally, they are jumping from school to school to try to start automatically. In a lot of these cases they would be better off to wait and learn these systems and improve their game in practice wherever they are like most did in the past.
Haven’t heard even one complaint from the players.

Duke seems to be the lone program that has sone consistency. UK’s biggest issue is no guys coming here. But, overall, the blue bloods (outside of Duke) are being hit by the transfer portal and/or guys declaring also.
I don’t know a single fan that likes Cal not a single one. I live in Phoenix now but all of my friends I talk basketball with still are in Bowling Green where I grew up and lived most of my
Life, and there’s quite a few I talk sports with. Not directed at you personally but I have to wonder how serious someone takes UK basketball when they say they are happy with Cal’s performance. I’m old enough that we can agree to disagree and still be friends but setting friendly banter aside I gotta wonder about someone happy with Cal and I know I’m not alone. I come across abrasive on this site I’m sure I don’t wish ill on anyone here. My first game for UK was over 40 years ago and my love for the University is still high, the state of the program, not so much. To be honest the way the game is now doesn’t really resemble what I watch led for 40 years.
Thank you for the detailed response. I don’t disguise I don’t like Cal, but my love for the program is 40 plus years. I really don’t like the current status of the program, or college basketball for that matter.
