As a fun off season exercise (only), compare the current roster to the great or past well known player you would like to see them aspire to.

Mason Williams - Epps
Wilkins - SGA
Moreno - Townes
NDaiye - McCarty
McBride - Mercer
Morton - Dom Hawkins
BHawthorne - Tay
MilMom - MilMom
Diallo - Keith Bogans
Potter - Mark Pope (;))

Moreno is in no way comparable to KAT. Wilkins is comparable to the 2 time NBA MVP? McDaiye and McCarthy? McBride & Mercer? That is a lot of optimistic comparisons. You might want to rethink these.

Wilkins reminds me of TyTy Washington. Both are three level scorers with point guard speed but play combo guard. Both have elite secondary passing skills. Wilkins has better size and Washington was the better defender in college, but both guys are slight and slippery.

Moreno reminds me of Randolph Morris. Wide body, good but not elite interior scoring. Good shot blocker but not elite. Both have really soft touch around the basket. That said, I think Moreno has more finesse to his game and better footwork, while Morris was the better natural athlete.

Momcilovic reminds me of Kevin Grevey. He is lethal to shoot from anywhere on the floor, can dance and shoot it under duress. I’m not saying Mom is even close to as good as Grevey, just saying they are both similar archetypes. Grevey did most of his damage midrange and I see Mom as the modern day version of a Grevey type guy with his range being extended.

Diallo actually reminds me more of college SGA personally. He’s a jumbo guard who plays at his own pace, can get to his spots in midrange and bury you. He isn’t so much a slasher as a dynamic scorer with playmaking.

^ Comparing archetypes not performance level. You’re almost always comparing to a legend of old who is better than the current player.

Going outside UK players Momcilovic reminds me of Steve Novak from Marquette. 6' 10" - Across his 126 college games, he shot 46.1% from beyond the arc, making 354 of his 768 three-point attempts.

Not bad, but I think McDermott could put it on the floor and take it to the hole better.
McDermott wasn’t a slasher but he had some creation to his game. That’s why I see Mom closer to McDermott than Novak personally. Steve Novak was as good as a catch and shoot guy as there was but that was all there was to his game back then. Mom is worse than McDermott but similar archetypes (McDermott was a better shot creator and was more comfortable with it in volume.)

It’s threads like these that cause people to think UK fans are insane. We just can’t stop thinking about UK hoops ever. …even if it’s mid-summer and we have to make up looney premises to do it.

I’m just offended that Kam and Noah got left out of the OP’s comparison party.

Wilkins to SGA is probably the best comparison of the bunch. Doesn’t mean that’s a prediction of Wilkins future success. Their changing speeds, understanding angles, unorthodox finishes. Very much comparable. Doesn’t mean they’re equal.

Novak had Wade to take it to the hole and kick it out to him so he got a lot of spot up open 3's.

When I first saw Zoom highlights I thought he looked like a combo of Aberdeen and Oweh. He got to the basket sneaky like DA and had the mid range pull-up like OO. Hopefully his 3 pt % will inch up like there's did.

I think we should just let this team be their own thing. It's not fair to put these comparisons on them. I just want them to show up, play hard, and make a lot of threes. Win as many games as they can. We'll see what happens from there.

I have to totally disagree with your take on Moreno/Morris. Morris was all finesse. His go to shot was a post fade, something I haven't seen Moreno do once.

I think most of these are fair as far as potential goes. If Wilkins could work on his shot he seems to have some of the same movements as SGA.
SGA shoots it so well and pretty underrated in that sense.

I encourage you to re-read the original post... it's just some fun to see who you would like to them develop like...not a comparison for what they look like now or are even EXPECTED to be this year or next. Just what about their build/style makes you seen a hint of some great former players.

For me, McBride reminds me a little of PJ Washington way more than Mercer.

Moreno... he plays too nice, but I would LOVE to see him develop a little Jamal Magloire in his game.

But isn't it nice sometime to see the optimism, instead of the negative 😊
We just hope one of the comparisons turns out even close to those players of old 🤞

PJ is a great comparison for McBride

Cuck responses were typical and predicable. Some of you need to just post on Card Nation. Learning what “aspire to be” might also help you fro embarrassing yourself in the future. It’s not the King’s English. So many stupid cucks on this board looking for every way to be negative.

[Edit: sorry about the “cuck” exaggeration. It’s about the only pejorative that does not get replaced by asterisks. It was too much. Should have dialed that back]

Thank you for reading comprehension. I thought about making some extreme disclaimer but then checked myself and said these are smart people, they will understand. LOL

By the way. I thought of Magloire for Franck but did not like the comparison. Maybe better for Moreno. The Mercer connect for McBride was tenuous. PJ may be better.

McBride to PJ Washington is hilarious dude couldn’t carry PJ’s water

I don’t understand why you think anyone is saying McBride = PJ
as far as equal level of talent and production…hence, the OP saying what player would you like to see the current roster develop to play like.

The post was based on size and style of play…no where does it say OR imply that McBride is equal to or better than PJ. But, if McBride could grow and develop into a great player that has similar measurables to him, PJ would be a good one.

Umm …you do realize that McBride is a senior with only one remaining season of eligibility, right? As are most of the players being brought up in this silly thread.

The notion that these older players in their 20s are gonna “grow and develop” into something dramatically different here is foolish. That ship has sailed. At this point they basically are what they are. Let’s just hope what they are is good enough.

I was thinking earlier today about Mason Williams. Although I've only seen HS highlights (and stats) I was genuinely impressed about his overall game. I thought, like the OP, maybe an Epps like player. I'm hoping he can be our definite backup PG this season.

I hear you, and again, that’s the difference between expectations and the fun of just looking at a player now and saying who do they remind you of, and based on that, who would it be cool to see them develop toward.

I have no misconception of expecting or realistic hoping that he is going to have some developmental epiphany. It was just a silly fun thread…just relax and have fun with some random comparisons.

So many issues with this (Wilkins to the NBA MVP?), but l, dude, Zoom plays nothing at all like Keith. Have you even seen any of these players?
