How did GA/AR get the 11 am game and Vandy/UCONN get the night slot. GA/AR is at least tied for the marquee match up of the week.

Not that I’m complaining. Just means there’s a full day of games I want to watch.

ESPN wants eyeballs on its main channel at noon. The Vandy game is on ESPNU, following two AAC games. Nobody likes noon games, I know, but Georgia-Arkansas is in the bigger slot, as far as ESPN is concerned.

I hope ESPN does hold that 11am spot for their marquee game. That means many night games for State in the future.

Yep. ESPN wants viewers as early as possible to sell advertising to the largest extent possible. College Gameday followed by a game with two known names allows them to hold a good share all morning and into the afternoon. They know they are going to lose viewers at the 2:30 slot to CBS… but a big game at night pulls them back.

College football Saturdays for ESPN is like Black Friday to retailers. They have to maximize the viewership for as long as possible.

What's happening here is traditionally, ESPN would put a marquee Big 10 game on at 11AM. They've replaced that with a big SEC game. But the other 11AM game is Tennessee vs Missouri, and when the CBS contract finally ends in a couple of years, there will be more afternoon SEC games (definitely still better than 11 though, and actually later in the season better than a night game too).

Georgia Arkansas at 11 am is criminal, I’m going to miss the second half. That’s the biggest game of the day.
