Wha t about Dantonio from mich state. Thoughts
Michigan State will build a statue to Dantonio upon his retirement. Why risk a legacy at his age? His daughters attend MSU and he has been in East Lansing for 11 years. He personally rebuilt MSU into a national program.

MSU stuck with him during off-field stuff last year / coming off a 3-9 season, but still gave him a contract extension last January. Dantonio has a great relationship with the school President, AD and Izzo. In terms of pay, Michigan State could match anything another Power 5 school offered, but has generally been very proactive about ensuring Dantonio gets what other programs could offer. I think for a time, before Urban got to OSU, Dantonio was the highest paid B1G coach, it was him or Ferentz. Izzo has been the highest paid hoops coach in the country at different times in his career. Schools aren't going to outbid Michigan State for Mark Dantonio or Tom Izzo. Mark Hollis is regarded as one of the best ADs in the country.

Maybe not plan B or even plan C but I still think Bielema has some gas left in his tank. Don't laugh...I'm being serious. Arkansas was never a good fit, his coaching style is all big ten. At Arkansas he never had a decent quarterback (Allen brothers started the 5 years he was coach) and didn't have a decent defensive coordinator or talent. Also he found recruiting difficult to Fayetteville and Arkansas is no Nebraska. I could see him getting much better players to Nebraska and putting monster lineman and freak running backs in the NFL just like he did at Wisconsin. In addition...he and his teams would be highly motivated to beat the two teams (Wisconsin and Iowa) that more often than not would be competing with Nebraska for the west most years. Nebraska could do a lot worse and at least Bielema has achievements.

Why didn't Brett have a decent QB? He ultimately is in charge of recruiting. If he didn't have a decent DC isn't that on him too? He hires the assistants. I think Brett is nothing more than a fat bully.

Why don’t you just call him “Hey boy” while your at. SMH

What's with this quote? "If we ever have to have a Black coach" It doesn't sound very enlightened. I hope Moos doesn't put it in the job requirements for the head coach job.

So you would take Strong even though you think Petrino built his team in Louisville. Pair that with is disastrous years in Austin and you have another Riley. Charlie is having good first year at USF, but give him a few years. He's coaching Taggart's players for now. Let's see how he does with his own.
Im not sure, I haven't followed louisville that close to know who did what, someone just told me that strong replaced petrino...I do know a guy like john blake could recruit lights out, so maybe strong can...hard to tell at texas cause they will get 5 stars if I coached there..

oh I just meant that sometimes government jobs have to have quotas. based on race. I don't care what race they are if they win and are a decent guy (represent NU good)...I didn't like bo in that way...but then I grew up watching Dr.tom...thats a hard act to follow....I hear that ark.state coach get banged on a lot....Im not sure if he's a jerk or just gets dogged on cause we lost to him a bit.

1. why can't we get iowa states coach? he seems to have done a lot with a little.

2. who would you pick between leech and ark states coach?
I like leeches humor, and he seems like he would know how to use our current offensives skills.

3. would charlie strong be a good choice?
sure he didn't do great at texas, but you have to be more than a coach at texas you have to do a lot of other bs. plus if we ever had to have a black coach he seems like a decent guy (gill and brown also is but I don't see that right now)

1. Scott Frost
2. David Shaw
3. Chris Petersen
4. Menphis Coach
5. Mike Leach

Frost is a hot commodity but if you think your going to win games 49-42 in the b10 you might be disappointed.

Seemed to work for Penn State last year. Their offense was terrible in 2015. Then they brought in a great offensive coordinator with a similar offense to Frost, and won the conference last year, beating Wisconsin 38-31 in the championship game.

Frost has the #1 scoring offense in the country right now with mostly young 2 and 3 star players. He doesn't need 5-star guys, he just recruits as much speed as he can regardless of how high they are ranked.

Your yard your rules but if I were a Nebraska fan I would want this guy.

That's an offense you could recruit to and wouldn't have to out athlete the michigan/psu/osu of the conf. Frost is a hot commodity but if you think your going to win games 49-42 in the b10 you might be disappointed.
Yeah, way to point to one game.
How dare ucf beat a 9-1 team with an amazing QB in the division championship to cap an undefeated season by only one touchdown.

Penn State has more 4 and 5 stars on thier roster right now than a team from the west would have over a 10 year period.

Personally I think we are fooked if we don’t land Frost.

1. Any high level name coach is going to have reservations about taking the job knowing he clearly wasn’t even close to being the top choice and every media outlet and fan knows that you were the booby prize after Frost said no.

2. Related to above - any high level coach is going to have reservations about taking a job where the fan base is going to be pissed about the hire - simply because you aren’t Frost

3. Of all the open jobs - Florida - Tennessee - aTm (likely) - Arkansas. IMO the job status is closer to Arkansas than UF or aTm. The only reason we are a serious contender for probably the #1 young head coach looking to move up is he played here.

4. We have an aging AD who will likely retire while the next hire will be coaching. The new hire will not know who his AD will be down the road - that will be a negative to some

We are all in with Frost.

Haven't seen anyone mention Narduzzi from Pitt. Hard nosed defensive coach and will want to run the football. Was the DC under Dantonio so B1G experience. He is going to make sure his teams are physical and still a good guy.

I'd be ok with him being DC and frost being HC/OC

Leach is great, but I don't think throwing 50 to 60 times a game would work real well here.
Finesse ball. Run & shoot offense with a soft against the run defense will go over like a fart in church.

Nebraska football is physical, tough and smart. It was that way long before the 90's. We practiced two and three groups. We had depth. There was competition for playing time.

Who is replacing Bret Bielema in Fayetteville?

Many Razorbacks say it is only a matter of a couple more days for Gus ...
Yep. arky thinks they are getting Malzahn. Huge homerun hire if they do

Aren't there rumors about Wazzu's DC coming here? Wash St.'s D has impressed me in the games I've seen.

True, Wash State has a good defense this year. Seems like an outlier to me. Historically though, Run & Shoot teams tend to have bad defenses that are especially bad against the run. Not a good recipe for success in the Big 10.

We have fast and good WR’s. We have solid RB’s. We just need a athletic QB. Which he didn’t have when he first went to UCF. He converted a WR to QB who did extremely well before getting injured. Then inserted a true freshman and went to a bowl game and next year went undefeated in the regular season. Frost would have little trouble here.

Let's bring Lamar Jackson over to the offense. He'd be much better as WR or wildcat QB than at DB where he's obviously struggling.

Not a great recruiter
Narduzzi was one of our best recruiters at Michigan State, high energy, kids like playing for him. He has deep recruiting ties in Ohio, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. His father was a very solid college coach at Youngstown State before dying young (51). Where Narduzzi struggled was with media relations but that might have improved since he left East Lansing. I think Nebraska could do a lot worse. Narduzzi is doing the best with limit firepower and money at Pitt. You pair him with a $1M OC and a few high power recruiting coaches, no reason why Nebraska couldn't dominate the B1G West.

You would know better than me but I've had Michigan State people tell me recruiting wasn't his strong suit.

For Me it goes

1) Scott Frost 2) Kevin Sumlin 3) Matt Campbell 4) Dan Mullen 5) Mike Leach

If we get any of those 5 I'll be tickled pink.
I concur with that list. Very good coaches 1 through 5 and I too would be happy with anyone of these coaches. Go Big Red!!!

Paul Johnson is 75-53 at Georgia Tech. Why would we want another old retread to be the Huskers new coach?
I think NU needs someone young, with the energy to go get the players, plus what good is it if someone builds the program then leaves?

Iowa State is a program you need to get out when you can. It's gotta be close to the bottom of P65 schools

...Or maybe you meant he is a tenured professor...and an extremely unqualified person to be hiring ADs without help.
No. My brother is an attorney and speaks very highly of HP's credentials and ability as a law professor. Obviously his AD choice didn't turn out.

Sumlin played in the toughest division in football with a historically average program and won 11 games his first year and 8 every year after that. He beat Saban a number of times, he's a great recruiter, he knows the B1G. IMO he's the Mark Richt of this year. The team running him off isn't going to do any better than him and we'd be lucky to have him. Obviously I want Frost but if he doesn't work out Sumlin is the next man I'd call.

Just a visitor on this board, but grew up in NE and still pull for you guys. But I agree. Besides Frost, Sumlin is the next logical pick. The guy is a real good coach, and a great recruiter. Nebraska will need to be able to recruit the state of Texas, and recruit it well. I know his record might turn some off, but when you play in the same SEC division as Alabama, Auburn and LSU, its respectable. If he can recruit at the same level at Nebraska, I believe you guys could run the Big Ten West.

Because he's an extremely qualified professor????Winking

One of my best friends who went to Nebraska Law thinks Harvey is great. My friend is the smartest guy I know. Second place is not even close. I tell him all the time how Harvey ruined Nebraska Athletics and his response is "I don't care. Harvey has been great for academics at UNL".
