Academics Football and Research not to mention international pursuits and involvements (namely Europe) certain universities have?
UNC, NC St, and VT aren’t exactly football success stories. I’m not sure how they move the needle much beyond a name on paper.

All of that and more, but starting with the academic prestige of UNC nationally and globally, which is why B1G presidents were highly supportive of adding UNC a few years ago in the the previous round of expansion. Both schools are considered to have underdeveloped football programs that will benefit from SEC or B1G money. The state continues to grow in population and both conferences would love to add that market. FYI - I learned in the past that PSU4U is an actual insider on this topic and was very accurate on conference expansion on the old forum. I always defer to his knowledge on this topic.
UNC has done nothing in football up to this point. Their academic prestige may be there, but was also tainted by the discovery of fake classes for athletes years ago. Also, I told you guys several years ago that the XM college football guys began discussing the realignment of the B1G and SEC expansions will eventually lead to an NFL like playoff system. They started reporting this back when it was announced that USC was leaving for the B1G. This isn’t new news, it’s been the goal from the higher ups all along.

The only "power move" is Notre Dame
North Carolina is a solid consolation prize
Everyone else is about "filling seats" so you can accomplish your goal

And UVa not Virginia Tech is the bigger prize in Virginia
I would agree on academics, but again, the football team is largely an afterthought at UVa behind bball, baseball, and lacrosse. Although, those UVa sports would drastically improve the reputation of the B1G.

The posters who are advocating to add Pitt have obviously never attended a PSU-Pitt game in Pittsburgh.

I understand what you're saying but, JMO, I believe "football prestige" is way overrated in these decisions. I'm not convinced Clemson doesn't get left out.
