Pitching strategy...

Now we know its Texas and also we will likely face Madden. I am glad I don't have to decide our pitching strategy because their are so many considerations it makes my head spin.

They are pitching Madden on 5 days rest who pretty much shut us down on Sunday. We could pitch Bednar who out performed Madden and has had the same amount of rest and in doing so would likely be available on short rest for the championship series. If we pitch Hootie and we lose then Bednar has to go Sat and our best starter is probably done for the series and our starter for a game 1 of the series is Macleod who looked dreadful on tuesday. We also are unlikely to have Sim available for more than an inning today if that.

My gut tells me pitch Bednar so you can get the most bang for the buck out of our best arm. Then pitch hootie on Sat if we lose and Monday if we win. That would make Will available on 3 days for Monday or 4 days on Tuesday. But what do I know.

Sorry for new thread. I missed the one below.

I say go with Harding. The bullpen is in good shape so lets roll the dice and try to set up for Bednar on Monday. Our bullpen is really our most valuable asset and until Tuesday we havent really had to have it (outside of Sims) all postseason.

Madden will be pitching on 4 days rest.. not 5, and..

We'll go Harding tonight, Bednar next whether that's Saturday or Monday.

Xenomorph is correct on both counts. Madden will be on 4 days rest. For State, this is not very complicated at all. Harding, Bednar, and Macleod will be your next 3 starters in order. After that, if necessary, you start looking at pitching guys on short rest or plugging in Brandon Smith or Fristoe in a spot start.

Yep. And tonight is simply about getting Madden out of the game and still be in striking distance to attack whoever they bring in. Be within 1-2 runs when you see the back of him and we'll be fine. Regardless.. win or lose today and we're in great shape for a Saturday game.

They, on the other hand, will be deep into their pen and it'll take a RAT to beat us.

Let's just have our own RAT show up tonight. Forsythe, get hot now and carry us home, brother!

I agree. I think Harding can get us 4-6, Sims can get us 1-3, and the bullpen can get us 0-4 to bridge the gap. And even if it doesn't go to script, our bullpen (minus Sims) got us 19 outs Tuesday, giving up only a fluky solo home run. We can piece this together. I also think we're going to hit Madden better tonight.

We have a chance to have a good night at the plate. We are seeing Madden for the second time in a week and he’ll be on shorter than normal rest. He has given up 6 runs in 11 innings on us to this point.

We can score on them without having to get deep in the pen.

I doubt we play tonight due to rain.

Forsythe tagged one to right, I think his first AB against UVA. Best hit ball he’s had in weeks. Would’ve broken the no hitter early if not right to the RF.

Something to build on.
