It seemed like last year we really made an effort not to overextend Ginn and limited his innings. Will he eventually be a guy that can give us 7-8 innings or are 4-5 innings about what we can expect for most of the year?

Will the closer role be by committee or are we grooming someone to step into the Cole Gordon/Jonathan Holder type role?

I'm not smart enough to have any answers, but I liked the way Forrester looked. I'm wondering if Cerentola struggles throwing strikes if Forrester might be a possible Sunday starter?

We made a promise to him and his family in his recruitment that we wouldn’t overuse him. We are going to live up to that promise. Expect pitch counts limits of around 80 per week during the regular season. And around 100 in the postseason if necessary.

It’ll be tough to watch us pull him in the 5th with a 1-0 lead at 78 pitches.

I'm excited to see Cerentolla (sp) considering it is said he has the best stuff. Our "shaky" bullpen seems to be solid as always, then again it is just wright state

Yep. And he's a very important recruit for us. If he improves his draft stock it could help us attract high end pitching recruits like Vandy does.

I wish someone else would step up and become a good weekend starter so J T could become our closer. That way we use him in two games per weekend when it matters most. When Brandon Smith was injured that possibility probably went out the window. I do not know, but we may have pledged to develop him as a starter. If we did, we will gradually bring his count upward and hopefully get him to 90-100 pitches per game. He has to start pitching more to contact than for the K in order to give us 7 innings.

Last season, after the coaches limited him to 5 innings in his first start, Ginn average 6 2/3 innings over his next five starts. Then LSU chased him after 5 innings in which he gave up 5 runs on 9 hits. He clearly was nowhere near as sharp as he had been. Then he left the Tennessee game after only 1 inning and it seemed pretty obvious he was having some arm problems, so they had to limit his pitches over the next few games.

This early in the season starting pitchers should be on a much lower pitch count limit than they will be later in the season. Plus, we have a bunch of new pitchers and the coaches need to see as many of them pitch in game situations as possible, so they can determine who they will be able to count on later. For the same reasons, some of the new guys will be left in these early games when the coaches would yank them in a league game later in the season. Bednar in the Saturday game is a great example. The coaches love his stuff and wanted to see him work out of jams in a game situation.

It is not so much about winning games right now as it is about getting a look at pitchers in addition to the weekend starters.
