Seems right to me. I would rather not see Glauber or McDuffie in this game.

Could be the last real game to get some of those arms that slot in as our 7th through 10th options in the game before a regional, assuming the series at State and the ACCT afterwards are able to stay “on script” for UNC.

Hopefully we can get Padgett, Seagraves and Matthijs all on the mound at Wilmington.

I agree. We’ve got to get those pitchers some work. We can’t win what our goals are without being able to trust someone else. I hope not getting work at the expense of a loss, but it’s time for those guys to step up.

I would like to see Flannery. While he tends to walk too many batters, which inflates his WHIP. his overall stats are better than those mentioned, Here is a comparison of Flannery, Padgett, Matthijs and Seagraves:

ERA
Flannery 3.44
Matthijs 5.32
Padgett 5.66
Seagraves 6.23

WHIP
Flannery 1,75
Matthijs 1.41
Padgett 1.50
Seagraves 1.62

BAA
Flannery .242
Matthijs .286
Padgett .277
Seagraves .188 (!)

HR allowed
Flannery 0
Matthijs 3
Padgett 4
Seagraves 1

WP
Flannery 2
Matthijs 4
Padgett 3
Seagraves 5

Flannery does have good stuff. It seems in one of his last outings, he about threw a few pitches over the backstop. It doesn’t seem like he has been out there since?

Seems like his stuff should play up out of the pen. I was sitting down low for one of his mid-week starts he came out throwing 97 and the stuff looked electric. By the third he was low 90s and getting knocked around. If we can trust him to throw strikes, would love him to be a weapon for a short stint out of the pen

Cam Padgett has more experience in the starter role in a spot like this. Probably going to be crucial down the stretch for us.
Editing to say that if we decide not to use Rose here.

ERA for relievers or short-stint starters is often based on a) do you have one really bad blow-up outing and b) how well did people who came in after you strand inherited runners.

I thought Seagraves was trending towards being this "next" guy but then he had the blowup in game 3 against BC.

Seagraves had one of the best innings by any pitcher when he struck out Burress and Lackey during the GT series. But then he will just forget how to throw strikes. I know he frustrates the hell out of the staff.
