Pitching 21 versus 22

Some might call me crazy for thinking this Bc we just lost a first round draft pick in Bednar but as a whole I think our pitching will be even better next year

Sims will be Sims either starting or closing
Replaced Macleod with another lefty who throws high 90s in Walling

More confident/ experienced Houston Harding
Same with Middle/long relief Preston Johnson
Cade Sims showed what he can do, same with Jackson Fristoe earlier in the year
More experienced
Parker Stinnett
KC Hunt
Brandon Smith
Stone Simmons
Mikey Tepper is the guy I’m watching, high 90s, be awesome to have him play a role closer role if Sims does move to starter

Bringing in another solid pitching class freshman and jucos which include another talented lefty Pico Kohn who won Gatorade player of the year in Alabama his junior year

I just don’t see how you can take sims out of the pen. He is such an overwhelming advantage on the back end.

Yes, Sims is a huge advantage out of the pen but coming out of the pen doesn't get you drafted in the 1st round or the 1st several rounds. He needs to start next season to improve his draft stock and we need him to start and improve his draft stock for recruiting purposes.

I honestly don't understand why I'm seeing almost no mention of this guy in threads about 2022. I see he wasn't drafted and I assume it was a stature thing (6', 190), but the guy was the Perfect Game National Pitcher of the Year and was the best player on the #1 HS team in the country.

I gotta believe he's going to find some innings next season.

Basically saw something to the effect of he looks like he’s pitching with a wiffle ball.

This is a serious question...If Greg Maddux were coming out of HS today, using today's analytics, scouts, etc. would he be drafted?

My thought on is would you want Sims to pitch sometimes only for 6 outs a weekend or would you like to see him get 5-6 innings guaranteed (as long as he’s on). We need him pitching more than a couple innings a weekend. Now, if we have 3 other guys show up and be legit SEC starters, I could see using him in the pen, but I think that’s unlikely. Sims, Harding, Walling, Smith, Fristoe, Johnson, the freshman Walker, that’s 6 solid options. I honestly like the idea of Johnson/Harding on Sunday and figure the other 2 spots out between the other 4. If Walling can’t be a starter you pair him with one of the righties and go Harding/Johnson.

Kale Breaux had the same type of credentials out of high school. Just never know what a freshman will do. Easier to project the guys returning, or JUCOs/transfers.

Depends. Sometimes those 6 outs are a lot more valuable than those 5-6 innings would be.

I'm just interested/excited to see if this guy can transition quickly into an effective college pitcher. He had an incredible HS career.

25-1 in his career. The loss was 1-0 in which he threw a one hitter with 14 Ks.

Did not allow a single extra base hit in a 13-0 senior season.

And then we will have 8 excellent arms out of the bullpen backing them up: Preston Johnson, Brandon Smith, Stinnett, Walling, Stone Simmons, Fristoe, Tepper, KC Hunt. 11 top arms will get you to Omaha and that doesn't factor in any of the freshmen.

Another thing to note, whether he makes it or not, is that we got a guy to come to MSU from LSU's backyard. And that was BEFORE we won the CWS.
