Yep. 3 pt bear win. Called it. They should be undefeated when the Mounties roll in to town next month. Congrats bears. Better, more physical team won game.

After seeing what Shelby is doing to South Point I think ACR runs the MAC without a team getting within 10 points of them like last season
I think you're right. Asheville is 1-4 in our last 5 games and the one win was BS 20 point comeback. Once a state powerhouse, Asheville high isn't what they used to be.

If it isn't turnovers it's penalties. You do either you usually at the losing end. If we wanna wins games this year we can not do either. Very disappointed in this team right now. We have been spoiled for years. Teams in the mountains use to be scared of us not wanting to play us. After this year we shouldn't have a problem with scheduling

On that note congrats to pisgah. Big, physical, well coached. Might have to catch the Franklin game.

I live down here in Charlotte area so I am watching the Shelby/SP game and I haven't at any point thought SP could win this game. Shelby has dominated them, SP cannot move the ball on them at all.

Spot on cougarsofahs, we have been spoiled over the years but the talent pool has slowly diminished for us. I don't necessarily blame the spread because this team damn sure couldn't run the I formation. Just not as big as our good teams, not as fast, not as disciplined and not as smart. We really don't have anything going for us. It's actually sad to watch

Bears defense is tough. Both Ashevilles scores came while Bears in prevent. Both teams made plenty of mistakes and I'd like to see the stats cause I'm guessing penalties are about the same with Pisgah having more turnovers. The difference in this game was the play on the line of scrimmage. Ashevilles lines aren't what I've seen in the past. Saying that, this Pisgah defense is the best Pisgah D I've seen in a longggg time! Those boys in the secondary are all great tacklers and that is fun to watch. Asheville will be fine and finish in the top three in the MAC. From my very biased opinion Pisgah was the better team by a lot tonight

IMO, Asheville has lost that physicality and "swagger" that they played with for years. And it's a bit of a down year anyway with all of the seniors lost from last year.

Asheville not a good as last several years ,Bears better than last several years.Good luck to the Cougars rest of year.Look forward to a good year for my Bears.

"Asheville will finish in the top 3 in the Mac". When I start hearing stuff like that it shows you how far we are falling as a program. In 2004, ac Reynolds went 2-9, Asheville high is looking at a season like that. Last year I said we weren't that good and beating us wasn't as much as an accomplishment as in previous years and people got pissed at me, but I'm afraid it's the same this year. This is not a good Asheville team. It's not even a good team period. Pisgah deserved to win that game without question, hell they should have won by more! Asheville high has lost 4 of their last 5 games and the one win was against Franklin in a miraculous come back.

Teams like pisgah and Franklin buy into their system, they play assignment football and are in the right spots. We don't have the physical talent we are accustomed to seeing at Asheville high and when you pair that with stupidity, it's a recipe for losing seasons.

You're right AHScougar1, I don't think it would matter what offense we were in at this point. Worst Asheville o-line I have seen in a while. People have their opinions about Wilkins running the I, but he was one of the best line coaches around.

This team looks bad in the I, but even if coach Wilkins was still the coach, they damn sure aren't built for the I.

Asheville has some speed with WR's. They just missed on a couple deep balls. Hook and lateral play asheville ran was a good call. The Bears D was no joke tonight. With that said Asheville's line play was definitely not up to par with what we're use to seeing. Don't get down on em to bad fellas. Still couple more weeks before conference. They'll get it figured out. Good luck the rest of the way.

Asheville will lose their next three games as well. That will be five in a row and going back to last year seven loses in their last 8 games. It's been a long time since an Asheville team did that. Their only gonna win three to five games this year. And from what I've seen from the JV team don't have much coming up. Could be a long few years coming up for my Cougars.

This is why I did not get excited about Newton-Conover's win at Asheville. Last year and this year are down years for the Cougars. Athletic yes, physical no.

I didn't see the game last night but I was a little shocked by the score. Just doesn't seem right seeing these teams beat Asheville. Who would have thought Asheville, Erwin, and Reynolds would all be 1-2 to start the season...

Did Erwin play Oothelwah last night or are you just going ahead and giving them the win?

No, but we are on the road 3hrs playing a team with close to 100 players and coming off one of the most embarrassing losses in recent memory for Erwin. I would love to pull the upset but I am being realistic. Hope I am wrong. I am also predicting a win for Reynolds over Owen...

To the Asheville fellas, how do you all think we compare to Franklin? I haven't been able to watch them any
Yalls D is better, but I give them the edge on O. They was up 21-0 on us and driven to score again before a fumble. Then somehow we came back. It's gone be a dog fight. One I'll love to see

I wouldn't put much into JVs right now. The seniors on the state team lost 4 games on JV and the juniors lost 4. We've had a good jv team every now an than but nothing special. When these kids hit a growth Spert and weights than I'll judge

That may be true, but there aren't any freshman Crezdon butlers or Johnny whites at Asheville high right now ready to swoop in and save the day. 2014 we had a state championship level team, since then you can physically see the decline of the Asheville program. 2015 was terrible with talent that didn't care and 2016 is a team with very little talent that plays hard.

It doesn't help that the middle school football coach openly encourages some of his players to transfer after middle school. The last 2 years, the best male athlete coming out of the middle school transferred.

I talked to a very well known coach at asheville middle who has been there 20+ years and he said the best player he's seen since Crezdon butler graduated at Asheville middle and went to Christ school last year

^^ This ^^
I've been waiting for someone else to bring this up. The man is definitely not about the concept of "team". He's all about himself. Anyone who would openly tell his players to transfer out of the system instead of playing football at Asheville High should not only lose his job, but have his teeth smacked out. What a piece of crap.

I know the former Asheville middle principal did nothing about it even though she knew it was going on. Not sure if anything has been said to this coach, but he has been a cancer to the program as a whole the last 2-3 years.

Serious question for Asheville fans and I'm just wondering because Asheville usually has big physical guys that are in good shape and by asking this I'm not saying they aren't this year it was humid last night but have the Cougars been cramping like that in the previous games? Boys look in shape... maybe not as big as most Asheville teams... hydration?

This time of year you'll see that everywhere on every team. People don't understand that hydration starts on Monday and goes all week. You don't just chug a Gatorade before the game and expect that to fix anything.
Also, if you'll pay close attention........a lot of times the split second a kid makes a stupid move or knows he blew a play or missed a tackle, he'll roll around on the ground and grab a leg or knee. Just count the number of times a kid misses a tackle or gets called for PI and mysteriously get's a cramp. lol

He won some kind of teacher/mentor/hero award last year and was given special recognition at ACS central office. The whole system is starting to unravel. It ain't the family it was back in the day when I went to school there.

Agreed! You will everywhere especially early in the year I'm glad all kids were just cramping and everybody seemed ok otherwise....I'm not knocking any team but cramping seemed pretty one sided all seemed legit no kids doing it bc he missed a tackle or nothing... just something maybe to look into with the hydration makes w big difference

I have respect for the great history of the Asheville program, the quality of your program is why you have a bulls eye on your back every year. Both teams played with great heart and total class, I sensed Mutual respect among the players. That being said I must be honest, I think the Pisgah Staff had the Team better prepared and Outcoached the Asheville staff.
