Goes to show most fans do not know the rules. You can have 12 men in the huddle and u can break it with 12. You just have to get the 12th off the field before the snap is imminent. Google it !! BTW none of the officials were from haywood co.

Obviously, you are thinking about the NFL, maybe you should stick to armchair analysis of the games at THAT level. IF you cant, as you say, "punch it in" in three attempts from that close, WTF makes you think you would be able to do it at some other point? Same goes for the NFL as well. In fact, the right call was made. And the right play as well. By the right person to make it. As for me answering post whatever, that isn't how it works. I ask the questions and you will answer them. Listened to Coach Chapell on WPTL Saturday.He said that they knew that the same person that called the play for the two point run on Thursday was the one calling the fourth down play on Friday.So they did the same thing on defense both nights.Worked out good both games.Wonder which team made the best adjustment at the half.First half Tuscola had 145 yards rushing.Second half 35.
He also said after looking at the film that Tuscola crossed the line on the third down play .The soccer line not the goal line.
The truth is that both game were typical Pisgah ,Tuscola ,hard hitting giving your all for both teams and great games to watch and will be remembered for years. Unless next years tops it and that want be easy.

I think the coach has done a great job. that being said ..all I was doing was stating that I didn't agree with the call at the end of both games. that's why we have message boards ,is for all us armchair qb/coaches have something to talk about.but I didn't realize at that same time I would step on mules mangina! sorry mule...im a a-hole that way that doesn't apologize for that!
Same Coaches for JV and Varsity, different players, but its clear that the mindset is the same (it has to be).
I know the JV game was great in itself because it was the largest crowd I have ever seen at a JV game. I hope next year's game is as crowded and exciting.

Not sure if the claims then or now are more accurate, but aren't they 5-3? It's not like they're a 1 or 2 win team. Give it a little time, you guys have one of the best at the helm.

So Tuscolas last coach went 8-3 and was even against Pisgah and actually played Franklin for a conference championship, and was leading that game when the QB went down with a broken collarbone. We ran him off and since then..... He's gone 18-2 with a conference title, meanwhile the new guy on the hill is 10-10 with and 0-2 record against the Bears. Hmmmmmmm.

Tuscola lacks no talent but the pass defense could be shored up. O-line and d-line are fine. HB's production has dropped the last few weeks as defenses have been set to shut them down. The FB is still making plays. Opponents are no longer getting burned by kicking the ball deep to our back line. They are pooching to the 2nd or 3rd group, setting up fair catches or minimal runs. Some of the earlier turnover problems by the RB's have healed but some of that may be from lessened production. QB needs to settle down in the pocket and to throw the ball away and not take a loss if needed.
Opponents have countered Tuscola's effective early production. It is now up to them to scheme the "counter to the counter".
The team also needs to find a higher level of intensity. The season is winding down. Seniors need to realize that FB is almost over for them. Basketball can wait.

Both offenses moved the ball well. Tuscola just made a few more mistakes than Pisgah. There's a video going around on Facebook that shows the last play from elevated view in the end zone. Tuscola tailback starts celebrating as soon as the ball is snapped. Maybe he should've blocked or payed attention to the play. Mental mistakes.Plus guess who was playing nose guard on the last play...#35. Just gotta say thank ya boys, thank ya.
I don't know about Tuscola but this bear fan would congratulate our team and coaches for a great season.Anytime we beat Tuscola it's a good year, anything else is icing on the cake.
As for the next three games.We are capable of winning all three.And yes we could lose all three .
Bigbear remember when 35 transferred to Pisgah and the Tuscola folks said we would have problems .His father is the kicking coach and on the field at every practice.Since the field goal beat them I guess he's doing a pretty good job.Our kicking game the last two years is the best we have had in years.
Verum are you new to Haywood county? We're use to losing in the playoffs. There's been a few years Pisgah has made it to the 4th round and those stung more than others. Hopefully we'll be playing on Thanksgiving weekend this year. It's all up to the kids. Besides Pisgah and tuscola have pretty good records in the 1st round.

havent watched a game this year. dont know how good either team is. if you go by what Dennis Smathers says in his coverage of the Mounties in the paper, he predicts the Mounties could win the Superbowl. if you go by what I hear from my coworkers, Pisgah is good and bad.

I'm not new to Haywood County. I didn't go to either school but I try to follow both teams. I guess the thing that confuses me is that Tuscola went 8-4 and lost first round 2 years ago. That coach was an idiot according to many. So if you end up 6-5 with a first round exit, what does that mean? Is the conference really that good? Look at who the other teams in your conference have defeated to get that winning record. Of course, I'm playing devils advocate but would like to hear an answer. I'll say it again, I want both schools to do well but I guess as a a non-Haywood native, I see things through a different perspective.
I think the conference is more balanced but that don't mean any are going far in the play-offs.Than includes Franklin who is probably the best of crop.Once you get in the play offs anything can happen.Just because you finish 8-4 and play a team that's 5-5 don't mean you win .Might just mean that team that's 5-5 was in a tougher conference.
Tuscola's last coach was a Pisgah grad. That should explain to ya why they think he's an idiot. As far as strength of conference and playoffs, all roads be it 3a or 2a go through Cleveland county. We all know what that means.
Agree with Pisgah Bears, the WNCAC is probably the most balanced we've seen in some time. Overall it's not a very strong conference compared to the MAC- Reynolds, Asheville, and Erwin would handle most everyone without difficulty- Asheville beat Pisgah, Erwin beat Franklin- and that is in all sports, not just football. We all know that once we get to the foothills round of the playoffs, it's tough sledding. Been that way since when I was in school in the late 70's-early 80's. The beat down just came earlier-2nd round in those days but there were only 4 rounds to play.
I don't think Franklin is as dominant as they have been. Certainly from what I saw in the Pisgah game-and both sides had some suspect coaching moments in that game. They are still strong and will quite likely win the conference.

Don't know because they've never tried. That side of the county runs the school system for the most part. They tend to use Tuscola for their "laboratory".
And "hated for winning" is not even remotely part of the problem. It was mostly a community issue with some personality conflict thrown in to the mix. Add in administrative problems. It was toxic and not just over football.

I feel like Tuscola has changed coaches a lot recently for football. How long will your current coach stay? He looks a bit on the old side, respectfully. And if you are void of athletes, as one poster suggested, would he even want to stay very long?

Not necessarily void of athletes, go see the JV squad. Are they Asheville, Erwin, Reynolds?- nope. The program has 70+ players between JV and varsity, which probably hasn't been seen since the earlier days of Doug Brooks. There are probably 9-10 more varsity players than last year. Those are good signs. Will it ever get back to the way it was before soccer and year round baseball and basketball? Probably not.
Starting o-line on varsity are all juniors but one and the lone senior has missed some time due a nagging knee injury he sustained in Week 2 so his back-up has been getting time. Starting QB/safety, one starting LB, 1 or 2 d-linemen will graduate. Junior laden team.
Coach Pursley retired from Guilford Co. Schools about 3 or 4 years ago, worked a season of college ball and then took the Tuscola job. He graduated from App State in the mid 70's so he's not exactly Methusaleh. As I recall the other candidate was a retired coach also.
I believe he's roughly the same age as Danny Wilkins of Asheville, give or take a year or two.
There is no "feeling" that Tuscola has changed coaches recently- Kiefer moved on to his alma mater, Allen lasted two seasons, and Pursley is in his second so that is 3 in five years so they have. However, Tuscola also got a new principal last year too and a new AD this summer. As I mentioned, things had gotten pretty rough there. The new principal has done a great job so far in trying to rebuild student enthusiasm and earn the faculty's trust. The new AD is wading through some pretty serious prior mismanagement and red ink.
Is the season turning out to be what everyone imagined? Probably not. They have already equaled their win total from last year however. The JV team has one loss in OT to Pisgah and has pretty much dominated everyone else they have played. Last year they won the conference and defeated Pisgah and Franklin. The cupboard is far from bare.

As long as people think that, Big T will continue to lose to Pisgah. Real Haywood Natives and Real Tuscola Fans know it's much more than a game.
Side Note: I agree 100% that the new principal and AD are EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. Both doing marvelous jobs steering athletics in the right direction. They just both happened to be waaayyyyy behind the eight ball when they took over.

I went to Tuscola during the Coach Brooks era and my kids are going to Pisgah right now so I have seen both sides of this fence. ...and I know plenty of people from both sides, so I hear all kinds of opinions about the way people feel about football at both schools. I see happy Pisgah fans and troubled Tuscola fans, and not just over this individual game. I think Pisgah has more passion right now, both the fans and the players, and it is showing on the field, particularly during this game.
I think Chappel was a good hire for Pisgah. If the new Principal and AD at Tuscola can get the support and passion and the right coach, they can turn things around. Before someone has a heart attack, I am not saying the current coach at Tuscola is good or bad, because I don't know anything about him.

Don't disagree with anything you said. When Chappel was hired, my comment to a school board member was that they had made a great hire and the next time this side of the county was faced with that process (and at the time, nobody knew what was to come), that I would expect the same process would be followed.
Just two observations:
Chapel has made a blue collar town embrace what they are. He has used what he has and fitted an offense to fit his people, much like Belicheck does with the Pats. He won 4 conference titles running the spread at East because that's the kids he had. Now he runs a power offense and is winning because that's the kids he has. Chapel has made the rivalry game for Pisgah even bigger than it was (didn't think that was possible). He talks the game up every year, plays the disrespect card, plays the "us vs the world" card, and it has worked perfect. Heck this year he even got camo jerseys "just" for this game, and unveiled them to the kids and fans at kickoff. Brilliant move.
THS current coach on the other hand won't allow his kids to talk about the Pisgah game. Discourages the team bonding haircuts that have been a tradition for years and years. And will not change the vanilla offense for any reason whatsoever. For the love of all things good I CANT be the only person in the stands who sees this.
