They’ve certainly moved beyond a pitcher’s W-L record as a meaningful statistic these days. It really means nothing at this point. And perhaps that’s fair, but it’s still so weird to me.

Skenes won the NL Cy Young last year - unanimously - with a 10-10 record. Just crazy. Seems like WAR and WHIP are really all that matter in this new era where saber-metrics are all mainstream.

Well, Skubal’s not gonna win awards this season, but he went 13-6 and 18-4 in Detroit the last two seasons with very good stats. Was a unanimous pick for the CY in 24.

I don’t mind great pitchers on bad teams getting recognized for great seasons.
