Yup.The typical RU transfer regression is real.
Hmm that’s not true of the more recent transfers that started most have either done better or stayed the same.

I’ll say Bulsak and Yara improved to AA
I guess Moore, Seabass, Suriano were relatively same.

Feel free to name more. I can’t really recall many that noticeably regressed from their previous school.

Having Pinto ranked Top 10 at #10 is a reason for celebration? He hasn't shown us anything.
He’s always been a borderline top 10 guy at Nebraska from what I recall. Will occasionally pull out a big upset. Still think he can AA just not as confident as the start of the season.

Has he beaten anybody ranked ahead of him?

Not yet this season, but he’s beaten guys like Karchala and P.Kennedy.. Pinto always been roughly R12 type guy so let’s see if he can break through this year. Yeah like u said good test against Michigan.

Bulsak was here for one year. Yaraslav AA'd his first year, then regressed in the second year. I read something recently about Yara doing well while back training at Cornell. Truthfully, Yara AA'd by beating a superior wrestler - Bastida, who had just lost in the main draw. He had championship aspirations and went into the Yara match already defeated. Transfers that were strong coming in should continue. The question is will they after the first year? Poz, Soldano, and others have been stronger in their first year out of high school. That is why I want to se them wrestling as true freshmen and maybe redshirting later, if at all. Another case in point: how much improved will we see Conner Harer next season?

Yara had an injured shoulder all year last year. I would not call that regression.

Harer is looking pretty good in redshirt. Not just with the results but with his aggressiveness and improvement on the mat. He’s beat probably 3 guys who will be NQ this year. I see him as a NQ R16 guy atleast next season and see if he can building from that. If he stays at 157 for 5 years I think he AAs at some point

I looked up Moore, he had a decent year 17-8 but he had quite a hit list, beat 3 AAs and 4 wins total over AAs Composto, Matthews, Vombaur 2x plus R12 guy Chappell and Hines. Fair to say Rutgers got there moneys worth with Mitch

Teams refused to take bottom against Harer as a true freshman. There’s a respect factor there. He should have been a NQ last year but those bids have been unkind to Rutgers

Heilmann was a solid add as well. Boone was decent though his gas tank was low.

Heilman was solid but completely not needed if I’m remembering correctly it caused a logjam. Boone made big jumps at Rutgers but I was also glad when he transferred out bc he was frustrating to watch

Yeah hard not to regress with a shoulder injury.
Shoulder injuries have severely inhibited or even ended wrestling careers (especially labrum tears). Just off the top of my head: both Alton brothers, Cassar, Robbie Howard, and now Nagao is missing a 2nd season due to shoulder surgery. Very difficult injury for even AA level wrestlers. This is obviously from a PSU perspective, but I’m sure many other teams have dealt with these types of injuries. ( Minnesota with Dylan Ness comes to mind).

I remember when Randy Lewis had a bad arm injury and came back to get 7th.That was ugly to watch.Good ole Lewboo.Definitely a kookie dude.Nobody nuttier than Ray Brinzer, though.I came back Jersey to be a later grad assistant under Sacchi, and they where recruiting him heavily. He had no interest as he was leaning heavily towards Oklahoma.Came in for an interview. What a wacko. Was talking about extra terrestrials and how they would be dominant wrestlers. The look on Sacchis face was priceless.

Check his record.
No thanks. Feel free to compare strength of schedules of his last two years and get back to me. Guy made the blood round with a bum shoulder. If I recall, he had a brace on the last part of the regular season as well, so any losses could have been attributed to that. Who knows? I'll even go on to say R12 with one shoulder against the
big uglies at HWT might even be more impressive than his 7th place AA.

He puts himself in a lot of dangerous positions by reaching back and trying to roll/funk too much. He could get pinned at anytime or maybe make a run in March.

I haven’t seen anything from him this year that shows me he can make a run. Can he catch someone and put them on their back? Absolutely. Can he catch enough guys in a row through big tens and NCAAs, slim to little chance I need to see him wrestle a complete match, against a top 10 opponent where is is not giving up back points and methodically getting out from bottom without rolling and kicking his feet up in the air.

At last night’s match, L. Pinto put himself on his back in the 1st period, and was never able to recover. Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor - ok, concede the takedown, get your escape, and there is still plenty of bout left. He decided to “funk” and gave up 4 points. Against the better wrestlers, that stuff just isn’t going to work very often (see, Soldano at RU for example).

Yeah...that was brutal to watch in person. And you could see Goody was trying to get Pintos attention but he wouldn't look over.

Like he knew he wasn't doing what they discussed/planned

Very very frustrating to watch...but also revealing.
