Legs are funny in Basketball. When your legs get tired everything gets thrown off a tad and that turns makes into misses and good passes into bad passes. The bench needs to play well for us.

It’s an intangible that can’t be deciphered.
There’s no statistics or science behind everyone loosing their legs at the same time, everyone shooting poorly at the same time…yet in sports it happens all the time.
We hear, how can we look lethargic and have no energy in an important game?
Or how could we not show up….the reasons will never be uncovered.
My team mate Bill Madlock a four time batting champ would hold meetings when we were in a team slumber slump, he’d ask how in the hell can all eight of us go down like duck pins all at the same time….there’s simply no explanation

That is because you give some rest to the starters in the first half to allow them to play most if not all of the second half.

Basketball 101.
Of course but during that time I felt he played the wrong players. Play Reiber, Hyatt, Mag more and play OSKAR and Agee less

Guys can be mentally conditioned to play heavy minutes.
These guys are young and can all play 35 minutes
Agreed they basically play 4 minutes at a time as they get a tv timeout every 4 minutes and then have 3 minutes of rest I see no reason why they can’t play most of the game as they are young men

Coaches delegate responsibility to their Assistant Coaches, while the HC owns everything. I would think that Knight is working with Pike on substitutions. So much is going on during a game, the HC needs another set of eyes that he can trust to help assess and make quick decisions.

During the game in real time, tracking minutes played, helping with tracking fouls and looking for matchups on the floor vs the opponent and their substitutions. And adjustments at halftime

Before the game, I would expect Knight helps with mapping the game plan to the rotation. After the game, a summary of what went well and what didn’t with regard to rotations/playing time.

Lastly, throughout the first half of the Maryland game MANY R players were in foul trouble (I think 5 players had 2 first half fouls). We HAD to play subs more as our fouling and poor play was screwing with the rotation. At halftime Pike said he stressed 1) stop the TOs and 2) stop fouling. Once the team did just that, the starters got extended minutes because they were playing very well AND they were no longer in foul trouble.

Was thinking the same thing … vs PU and UMD the team went on runs in the second half … fresh legs? … perhaps … maybe trying to keep starters out of foul trouble … get experience for next year … make sure starters play together as much as possible when they play … did the other team have key people out?

I really like Hyatt's game. A great transfer addition. I also like a lot of our other bench players - I think this is the deepest team RU has had in 30+ years - but Hyatt is a great 6th man.
I like Hyatt also, except that every time he gets the ball in his hands he looks to shoot & sometimes forces a bad shot.

If you want the ball shot, give it to my man Hyatt…he will shoot it that’s for damn sure
