In retrospect, Howard clearly watched RU’s last 5 games or so and realized our players arent coached on how to defend simple pick and rolls and instead our bigs aggressively double every screen leaving one player open. They exposed us, badly. And i expect many other teams to do the same.

The good thing? It is such a simple fix, can literally be fixed in 2 sentences/one breath.
It really should be good news that its so easily fixed. The scary news is those two sentences could have happened at some point during the game today and didn't.

If we get exposed with the same thing against Maryland, I'm going to lose it.

Cowan will destroy that **** if we try it again. Smith is a great big man and works the pick and roll well. Pair that with the fact that turgeon is a great coach, hes going to force the issue then if we try it and we have to collapse, aaron wiggins and morsell will crush us if left open from 3

I guarantee you that no Maryland fan will ever think of Turgeon of being a 'great' coach.
However, you are correct in that if Myles hedges out to double team, Cowan and Smith will destroy us.

MD fans hate on turgeon but they have no idea what they have in him. Solid squad year in and year out. 4 of the last 6 seasons theyve been 4-6 seeds

Exactly, because we've seen the alternative.

You do realize Juwan was a good NBA big man for over a decade and coached 6 years with the Heat b4 this job. He's no rookie coach or inexperienced. Michigan (13-8) is 4-8 in Q1 games, beat 25 Creighton (17-5), 3 Gonzaga (22-1), 21 Iowa (15-6), and 18 Rutgers (16-6), lost to @ 10 Louisville, @ 29 Illinois, 15 Oregon, @7 MSU, @ 45 Minnesota, @ 21 Iowa, 23 PSU, and 29 Illinois. Michigan is a plenty capable team.

Yet we still would have won if we just laid off Simpson and made him beat us. Instead we had Myles hedge out as far as he can and get beat on dunks and wide open 3s all game long. It was insanity that was the game plan in the first place. The fact that we never adjusted was shocking. Inexcusably bad coaching from Pike. Disappointing since it's so simple.
giving you an A FREAKIN MEN. My son and I were just screaming at this nonsense.

and I finally looked at the box score and never realized he let his team shot 1 of 16 for 6% from 3 pt land in the 2nd half. and just kept going there over and over with Geo, harper, and Young, and Mac going 2 of 15 while we all saw Yeboah make 2 early and Tez AGAIN make two to go 4 of 5. He's shooting over 44% from 3 last 3-4 games and HE WANTS IT more than any other player right now. BOTH ENDS!

Why can't this team see who's hot and who's not?

Ride the hot hand. Every night. Basketball is like that and the players are inconsistent. Mathis and Yeboah were playing better than Geo and Harper

MD fan here. I don’t know you at all, but I can promise you that you Turgeon is the opposite of a good coach. It took a few years for the general media to finally see it – because to your point he’s always just good enough to get a solid seed in March – but expectations are a funny thing and he’s done absolutely nothing to show that he can win anything meaningful.

This is not a slight at Rutgers, but the bar at Maryland is higher than just being a “4-6 seed”. In his 9 years at MD they’ve made the sweet sixteen 1 time and beat precisely 1 power conference team in the NCAAT, despite having multiple top ten preseason rankings. They’re also something like 2-32 against ranked teams on the road.

The right job for him is what he had going at A&M or some other football-first school in the Midwest/South. Nice guy, good recruiter, horrific in-game basketball coach who sometimes gets bailed out because he gets talent.

You guys need to get a grip. This Rutgers team is overachieving beyond anyone’s wildest dreams and in every game thread pikiell is getting out coached or geo sucks or Harper blows or Mathis can’t play or young out of control or mulcahy is the next big thing until his next possession when he should have red shirted. It doesn’t make sense. Get a grip

what makes me laugh is Rutgers all fans say they have been conditioned to be negative over years of terrible teams but they all expect to win every game they play and when the don’t win they go on the attack.

you all act as if you watch more film that pikiell and the staff. You act like teenagers actually listen and never make mistakes or do dumb things. All of you guys obviously don’t have children because apparently you think that once you say something they immediately do it and do it right.

Turgeon is a terrible coach. MD is the most talented team in the league, that's why they win. They should be running away with the BIG10 this year.

Pike had a bad game. Didn't adjust on defense and let Harper and Geo keep shooting when they were both playing bad. Should have been running things for Mathis and Yeboah. Mathis has been playing great lately but we never set anything up for him.

To be fair, even most good college teams struggle to defend pick and rolls. Or execute them, for that matter.

Hes still double teaming on perimeter and getting destroyed. It's not working.
It works when exe used correctly. Doucoure and Carter need to rotate back faster. The RU guards also need to slow the roll to the hoop down by putting their body between the screener and the hoop if the dribbler is moving away from him.

It has been working well most of the year, but both ends of it have not been in sync for the last several games.

You did not see them eating Miles alive on this because he does rotate fast enough most of the time. He was beat once by Teske on the roll, but Miles played it very well most of the game.

Even with the slow rotation back by the backups, the guards could/should be slowing that release down to help them out.
