The loss of Eugene and Yeboah was too much. He took a team with below average Big 10 talent and competed for most of the season.
After our quick start, the opposing coaches made the necessary changes and as the season progressed we wore down.
If you want to blame Pike, then do it on recruiting, not coaching.
We just don't have all the necessary pieces of the puzzle.
Go ahead, fire away.

At this point in the season, there are no surprises regarding how to game plan against us. We can't shoot from 3 on a consistent basis, so simply pack the paint against us. We fell into the trap of shooting from long range and not working hard enough to move the defense to get the ball on the inside. This is simply on coaching. We've seen this script during the last 1/2 of the season - no excuse for not adjusting at this point. I'm a Pike fan too..

When Pike uses the excuse "It's on me" believe him. He and his coaches absolutely SUCKED in preparing this team. They never made any adjustments to get the ball inside. KYK, is going to like what I'm about to say: How about a floppy offense with shooter(s) at the baseline and two screeners at the elbow? Come on Pike your offense is a dinosaur and easy to break. Tonight showed that in a glaring fashion. We became nothing but a BAD perimeter shooting team and when they're not falling like tonight, this offense goes into a shell and shuts down. Awful just awful.

At this point the biggest blessing for the program may be to miss the tourney. Pike is not a great coach, and not even really good. If he makes the tourney he will get a pass for too long, and we are going to be out on day one or two anyway. We aren't going dancing for at least the next two years no matter what anyway with what's going to be left of this roster.

Put him on the hot seat while the brand is still kind of on a decent upswing and get someone in here who can coach at this level.

Some dude who averages under 8 points per game just dropped 25 on us. Pike either can't recruit scorers or doesn't develop consistent scoring. This is a freaking joke. I'm way off the Pike bandwagon. Even if we somehow make the tournament, I'm off the Pike bandwagon. He got us out of a really deep hole, but his flaws are glaring.

Pike's offense isn't even a dinosaur there is no offense every possession is 1 v 5 and then just chuck up a 3 pointer and how about his recruiting can you recruit at least 1 guy who can effin shoot!!!

As is this narrative. In no way shape or form does missing the tournament help this program. You are consistently the in the top 5 of negative posters on here. More infuriating as tez falling down on every shot attempt.

And what's more infuriating than that is watching this team embarrass themselves at least once a week without fail. But BTW, thats definitely not true. Top 10 maybe, but I'm not someone who is constantly saying we won't make the tourney, or worrying about chemistry even after wins. Those guys are top5. I'm just dumb enough to actually not expect to get blown the hell out by Nebraska in a key game. So I get pretty pissed off when the team reaches a new low benchmark every other game, and call it out without sugar coating it.

Counter my rationale regarding missing the tournament.

Yeah let’s miss the tournament and go another coaching hunt. Sheesh.

Or let's make it, get beaten in the first round or second at best, miss it for two years at minimum, and then go on a coaching hunt? It's starting to become more and more obvious why RU has been terrible for so long. Fans are fine with it.

I wish one of these people who think Pike is good coach could explain what Rutgers does on offense besides dribble handoffs. Pike is more of a motivator than a basketball coach. Most times he can get the team to play hard but when it comes to scheming, putting together a offense or making adjustments in game he sure is lacking. At the end of the day if Rutgers doesn't make the tourney this year Pike should be on the hot seat because if Geo, Ron, and Myles leave they wont come close again for awhile

Pike needs to hire an Assistant Coach who can install an offensive game plan!
Recruiting shooters is far more important. The 3 point shooting is horrendous which impacts all aspects of team performance.I agree the half court offense needs improvement because there is too much time passing the ball on the out side with the shot clock winding down.

College coaching is more recruiting than x'o and o's.
It's all about getting enough talent.
Pike got a bad break with Eugene bolting for Oregon.
If he stayed, we would be firmly in the tourney and Pike would be building on the success.

He got a bad break a player he didn't recruit left the team?? Do you not realize that if Eugene stayed at Rutgers his senior year would have been last year and he wouldn't be on this years team regardless. How about the fact we kept hearing how "deep" this team was before the season and Rutgers didn't even attempt to land any grad transfers prior to this year

Our inability to shoot make us pretty easy to defend.
If you can't make a shot from the perimeter, I guess your options are limited.
And let's face facts, we don't have a Garza down low.

At least we have lacrosse
True. But I do think we'll eek into the NCAA's even if we lose to Minny. Our resume is solid. Personally, I had predicted we would end up 15-9 before going into the B1G tournament. Sadly, this team has underwhelmed and right now all we can hope for is a bounce back win against Minny or at least a win in the B1G tourney.

How about we worry about the rest of this season before writing off the next 2

I am worried about this season. Very worried.

If you don't see what the drop off is going to be next year and beyond idk what to tell you. If this is the ceiling this year, that's a HUGE letdown.

I think Eugene could have taken a redshirt to heal his knee rather than taking a year off to transfer. He could have been on this year’s team. I think he figured that since he’s taking a year off anyway, he’d look for greener pastures.

I fear @Caliknight is spot on. If Pike can't rally the team and make the tourney this season, I don't see it happening. And, even if we limp in, I'm still concerned. Pike doesn't recruit well enough, nor does he run an offense that will consistently produce above .500 results in the B1G. He's a great ambassador. A great cheerleader...but likely another basketball coach, amongst many at RU, who couldn't build - and sustain - a winning program. I hope that I'm wrong...will happily gorge myself on crow.

I think he is a good coach, but sometimes you have to be the bad guy and demand that the players run your offense. RU’s worst performances are when they stop passing and moving, and instead the ball sticks with one dribbler who tries to make difficult one-on-one moves to shoot. When that happens, asses need to be sat on the bench until the message is received. Pike doesn’t seem to ever do that. And that is on him.
