Pike-hating: so predictable and wrong.

I mean a huge part of the problem is that one of those lottery picks isn’t actually helping us win.

I’m not sure the point of recruiting one and dones (or why they are rated so highly in the first place) if they are so raw as to not be great college players in their one year. I would be ****ing ecstatic to have Ace if he would be here 3-4 years. As a one and done I am not so sure.

100%

Ace isnt delivering what his press clippings said and if you recruit a top 5 guy he must deliver immediately

Whether thats fair or not is another question. Ace isnt a difference maker. Dylan is.

I dont think you fire him...but not sure he can recover. He will get crucified until he makes the tournament next.

Honestly, I don't think he'll recover if he doesn't make it this year.

I could see Pike going the route of Jay Wright or Tony Bennett

Exactly. Been saying that all year. Huge upside, but Ace is not playing anywhere near like a "lottery pick" right now and if he doesn't step up, I don't think he will be one, unless it truly is only about potential. 18/7 is nice, but his handle is suspect, he turns it over a lot without being a distributor (0.6 assists per game vs. 2.4 TOs a game) and his defense is mixed: good athletic rebounder, but out of position a lot and only 60% FTs. I keep hoping he "gets it" and truly takes off, but if he doesn't, we're unlikely to make the NCAAs. If he played better in the Kennesaw game and this game, we have 2 more wins.

But certainly part of that is on Pike, who has not been able to get this team to play well together and who didn't obtain good enough talent to complement the two stars, both valid criticisms. But not reasons to fire Pike (and certainly not reasons to treat our best coach in the last 40+ years like dirt) - if we don't make the NCAAs, which is not a given.

I bet that I donate more money yearly than 75% of the people on here.
I’m not the concern there
I bet you in pales in comparison to donations at our peer B1G schools. For example, Michigan names position coaches in football after donors. I'm glad you donate. We have given a lot over the years, but our priorities are changing- cancer has ravaged our family, and it's time to give back to the place that saved my life instead of giving to snot-nosed kids who will transfer out for more money. But did do a lot.

Underperforming with two lottery picks makes me miserable.
Sorry that is such a central part of your life. It's about 0.5% of what goes into my happiness. I realize we are all different.

Let me ask you this since you are full of criticisms and few solutions. What makes you think 2 freshmen lottery picks were going to carry the team. I did not share my thoughts on this board pre-season because this board is rife with negativity, but I had many discussion that I would not be surprised if the team did not gel. Yeah, I'm the amazing Kreskin.

Good point here. Some really questionable decision making by Ace (not limited to this game - the backcourt in Vegas???) and he’s not dominating at all like we expected.

Criticism of Pike is totally valid. He’s gotta figure out how to get these guys playing like a team. Princeton played like a team, some amazing ball movement. We didn’t.

Sorry to hear about your cancer.

My wife also has also struggled with cancer over the years so I understand.

I don’t expect our team to be OSU/UM. I expect us to beat the teams we are supposed to. There is no reason RU should be in the same talk as Wisky or MSU or Iowa.

I guess I'm different than some of the more "invested" (not money, emotionally) fans on this board. Just tired of the constant hissy fits and foot stomping and revisionist history every time Rutgers loses, and those same people will be silent of find something to quibble about when Rutgers loses.

As I noted above in my question to Lou, why should anyone expect that two freshman phenoms were going to carry the team to a fantastic season? I had my doubts, which I did not share here on the board, because there's enough negativity. I was unable to watch the game today, as I was on a plane an in a car most of the day. Maybe I would have felt a bit stronger about the loss had I watched, but I doubt it. I'm not that affected after a loss.

You are embarrassing yourself in this thread. Not the day for this kind of head in the sand take
I never embarrass myself. You should look in the mirror when dispensing out such posts. My head is held high and proud, as it always is. Good night to you. Sorry you feel so bad. Life is good. The team is what it is this season, and I will continue to cheer for the team, and if changes need to be made, the end of the season is a time for evaluation.

1. Good for you and your soothsaying.
2. Roster construction is on Pike.
3. My solution long term is no Pike.

Stop. Pike could have added a center but chose not to. He also picked these transfers. All of whom look completely over matched. Thr roster is on him
He tried to get Kentucky ‘s 2 bigs , Williams and he was too costly and then went after Carr fromWake and he wanted too much that we did not have. Are you really trying to say he didn’t try to get an impactful 5 ? The money was not there. Both those guys I think went for more than a million or close to it. Ok. Blame Pike.

I’ve been surprised by his lack of explosiveness going to the rim. I wrongly assumed he’d be a high flyer and aggressive going to the rim. He may be a lottery pick, but he’s far from a sure thing in the nba.

Wrong. Ace is elite, needs to work on his handle. One More year?
