I’m liking the face masks that the MBB teams staff is wearing. Are they available to the general public?
I have several Rutgers cloth face masks which don’t properly protect against the virus. I can attest because I’ve recently tested positive and missed the last two games and I’ll miss the Michigan game ( damn it) as well.

Sorry to hear you tested positive. Bright side is you have some antibodies and won't test positive for a while now.
Not to get into a political discussion but WSJ was out with an article this weekend that only N95 masks protest against omicron.

They're the best at 95% (hence the 95.... also KN95 and KF94, supposedly, but you're rolling the dice on them being counterfeit as none are cleared by the FDA), but disposable surgical masks generally protect at 85%, too. Cloth masks provide minimal protection for yourself or others vs. Omicron.

Lol they don't even come close to that. It's maybe 1%. Yes I hijacked the thread but I will call this out every single time it's said or written.

I have a lawyer friend and Rutgers alumni who brokers large deals for wholesale quantities of masks and other PPE

Just throwing that out there if anyone is interested and knows buyers/sellers... finders fee for referral...

Lots of unmasked folks in the stands at tonight’s Wisconsin @ Purdue game. Lots. Looks like a full house. For whatever reason, I expect a lot of (COVID-related) empty seats at the RAC for the Michigan game.

I Google-d for Mackey Arena policy. It does not appear that they require proof of vaccination and photo ID. They do require facial coverings. They say if you do not feel well and/or have any symptoms, you should stay home. They encourage all eligible recipients to receive a vaccination and the subsequent booster.

I think the Michgan schools have mandates..no surprise there

Although under 11 at Michigan can get in with no restrictions

As it should be. Dopey RU putting in requirements that make zero sense.

RU is shooting for an arena filled with vaxed folks who can get and spread covid sitting in masks that don’t do squat. Genius.

My oldest friend, who has a PhD in Microbiology told me last week that I should upgrade my mask.

When I went to the Post Office this morning to mail two late Christmas presents, I wore one of my Donna Lewis cloth masks over a KF94 as he recommended, because that is consistent with the WSJ article by Ansberry and Subbaraman, who interviewed Graham Snyder, MD.

The article's concluding quote from the medical director of infection prevention and hospital epidemiology is "Masking works. Period."

At this point they might as well suspend the vaccine and mask mandates. There's a certain amount of cognitive dissonance that is causing people to cling to these in the hope that they will stave off transmission. Unfortunately Omicron changed the game. This is burning through the state at an unprecedented pace. The only mandate that MIGHT have any effect on transmission with Omicron is an N95/KN95 mandate and that would assume full compliance by all. I was in a meeting this morning where 5 of the 7 of us currently have covid lol. The two who didn't were out of state.

just doubling down doing the same things that never stopped transmission, mind boggling actually to think they think they will slow the spread of something this contagious. Everyone will come in contact with it, mandate or not, vax or not, mask or not.

the object is to try and not just let it spread without an attempt to contain it as much as possible.
Making an attempt to keep the most vulnerable amongst us as safe as possible.

That said, mask mandates in venues allowing people to take them off to eat and drink sounds stupid to me.
If someone is infected and takes mask off to eat/drink they can spread it then.
Masks for the most part just keep the wearer from breathing out infected droplets, but not keep the wearer safe from breathing in infected droplets

Let the vax card/negative test proof be the only entrance requirements and a buyer beware polkicy on catching it for all who enter venues that allow the mask off and on policy .

Cloth masks only are the equivalent of making a submarine with screens. I don’t have 95’s but will be double masking (surgical and cloth) at games.

if you are vulnerable you really shouldnt be going to a game during a raging pandemic. Everyone as a person can take their own risks for them and their family

Agree that the cloth masks essentially do squat to curb covid virus. Fauci said it publicly in early in 2020 based on many years of mask protection / virus research. it Even Scott Gottlieb just recently confirmed on air :

Dr Scott Gottlieb on masks.

The N95s help provide a level of protection for sure, but no guarantee. Bottom line is it’s a virus and contagious. Even those taking the most stringent precautions aren’t guaranteed to avoid covid. See pic of our Secretary of Defense, masked and shielded

RU couldn’t have just left the masking policy in place….no…had to put a new policy in place that makes no sense at all. Zero.
