Anyone play this sport? I'm asking because I'm considering it but I don't have great movement due to knee replacement. Do you have to do a lot of twisting and sudden push offs? Thanks in advance for any information.

I played once and it was a blast. I keep meaning to play again but we never seem to manage to fit it in our schedule. I would say you're going to use the same type of movement that you would in tennis. Really you can play at any pace though. It just depends on who you're playing against.

I am surprised how many people play it now, it was a blast playing it in PE class.

But yeah, similar to what you would do in tennis.

I live in a senior community and they're removing the tennis courts (Nobody uses them) and turning them into Pickleball courts so I thought it might be something worth while trying.

Some pickleball things.....
-similar to tennis in several ways but NOT same game or strategy...
-I played it three days straight over New Years...now love it...takes very little time to learn
-one of my tennis coaches is now #5 in the world...look him up...Jocelyn Devilliers, from WSU, by way of France...he's making a FINE living on it...

When I visited by in-laws in Mesa their retirement village rec center looked completely overrun by pickleball players on a daily basis. Judging by the looks of that crowd I'd say anyone can play.

I play weekly with a large group here in Florida. It's typically less running than tennis and very popular. If you play with good players it is fast and requires good reflexes like racketball but if you play with less agile people then it is more like badminton/ping pong.

That's the biggest appeal, I think....

When I retire from playing basketball, I plan on taking up pickleball. My brother started playing over the last year, loves it. He had to retire from basketball a few years ago from a bad back, but has no issues in pickleball. He said you never really get out of 2nd gear when playing. Good workout to stay active, but not over the top. The thing he said he enjoys the most is the social aspect of playing. They (him and his wife) show up to a neighborhood court and play strangers, always friendly games. He was a high school state champ in tennis, so he was naturally good at it. I've played a ton of ping pong over my years, hope those skills translate as well on the pickleball court 😉

He was a doubles state champ, late 80's in Nebraska. He's also been a varsity high school tennis coach for about 20 years. My parents used to play a ton of tennis, my brother as well (he still plays). I never got into it that much, but definitely appreciate the sport...

I don't play but it's getting crazy popular in Colorado. In the strip mall that houses my gym, someone is gutting an old furniture store and putting in an indoor pickleball complex - apparently complete with full bar service.

Speaking as someone with two artificial knees, I don't think I would have any trouble playing pickleball but I would probably avoid concrete courts, if possible.

My wife and I started playing last summer. Lots of fun. I have a knee issue from a torn meniscus repair from 20 years ago. Pickleball does not cause me any pain in my knee at all. Our HOA put pickleball lines on the typically unused tennis courts.. The courts see lots more use now.

Just got home from playing. If you're in the Omaha area, it's free to play at the City of Omaha Community Centers ... presuming you're over 55 (like I am). Fun sport, and as previously noted in this thread, its decent exercise and a good social outing. How challenging is completely depended on who you're playing against that game. Tennis, Ping Pong, & Racquetball experience all help prep you for play. The rules/scoring are kind of weird, but once you understand them, they're easy to remember and not that dissimilar from tennis & ping pong. .

Congrats to him!!! Don't wish you to 'out' him, but Class A, Class B, playing and coaching?

I’m kind of interested as well… I was in the state finals in doubles in 1988, maybe I lost to your brother…

I love tennis and am dismayed by the number of fat octogenarians repurposing all the nice tennis courts. **** them! Don’t be a *****… play tennis

Wow!!!! Now I'm REALLY intrigued!!!

In 1969, I lost in Class B doubles final...odd story...my partner was playing with a BRAND NEW Wilson T-2000...most out there racquet of the times...and we were cruising...and then his strings broke...and his backup was a flimsey wooden Bancroft....we put up a good fight but lost...but won as a team in a pretty big upset...

My wife and I took lessons last Feb and continued playing throughout the Summer and now play 2-3x per week
I’ am 66 and in good condition, the sport is what you make it. Leisure or competitive
It can be fast moving and a great test of stamina and hand/eye coordination
Ready for tournaments

Again, nobody uses them they are a wasting away and now the courts will be used and give seniors some form of exercise. Not everyone can be a stud like you and run all day.

Maybe he should play rugby or hockey since he's not a "*****". 🤣

I have a neighbor who has played tennis forever. Her mom was a local high school tennis coach. She’s really a good player. Has been mostly playing pickleball the last few years plays at a high level. She killed me and I thought before we played I could use my power and mobility to beat her. Boy! Was I wrong. It was all about ball placement and then when she had me out of position she smoked the ball like a rocket past me. She plays with a former senior LPGA golfer and they win tournaments against women 30-40 years younger. None other than thee Rick Barry called her last summer to be his partner in mixed doubles. They won their first tournament in Palm Springs. Since I am taking care of her house (two houses down the street from us), lots of snow blowing, and she is in Phoenix for the winter not sure how they have done since that first tournament. I am sure they’ve done ok. I will have to ask. You should see the podium pictures. Rick towers over everyone.
