Was down in the Greenville area over the weekend. Always great to be back in SC. Stopped by an Academy to get some Gamecock gear. I haven't actually purchased any Gamecock shirts in eons and didn't really have any to speak of anymore. Picked up a Nike polo and t-shirt. Look nice. T-shirt ran very small. I'm consistently a size large across the board, but the large fit like a medium. XL was just the right size. Polo fit nice as a large. About had a Sanford and Son heart attack moment when the cashier gave me my total. Didn't even think to check the price of the polo when I picked it up...$80. Yowzers.

I realize now this may be the most boring post ever, but I typed it so I'm posting it.

Thanks for the economic update 🤑 but what are your thoughts on the the Nike Gamecock "garnet" which has been a major topic here?
Also, as an only occasional visitor to the Greenville area, the locals want to hear your thoughts on Greenville's handling of the growth and traffic impact on your visit.

I live up here and man, the growth is unreal. They're building stuff all over the place and subdivisions are popping up left and right. A lot of the 2-lane roads simply can't handle all of this new housing. A local plumber's ad up here says "we can unclog anything except Woodruff Rd" :ROFLMAO:

Downtown is starting to look like Charlotte did a decade or so ago and I hope they get it under control. The traffic is unreal and you must plan for an hour to go most anywhere. What used to be "backroads shortcuts'' are now major traffic routes and if you get on I-85 between Woodruff Rd and GSP between 3PM and 7PM you can count on sitting a while.

The shirt is garnet for sure. The polo is the one Beamer was wearing in the infamous phot, but the colors are much closer to garnet.

Every time I go to Greenville, it's more unrecognizable. Several times while riding around I had to ask my sister "now, where exactly are we?" Sad commentary, though. It's like Charleston. Last time I was there several years ago, it felt like it had lost almost all of its southern identity/charm from when I lived there 20+ years ago (and even that was faded from what it was previously).

Something else we've noticed about Greenville . . . for reasons unknown, employees in retail establishments and restaurants up here are totally different from what we were used to in Columbia. The difference is amazing. The first time I went to Lowe's I was shocked at how friendly and efficient they were. I've seen the same in lots of other places. Maybe it's the lower humidity or something :p .

Well, I was traveling from the DC area, so it's bound to be an improvement

I drove around Greenville a bit a few weeks ago on a visit to see family (after living in Montana for 9 years). I had no trouble getting around and didn't find the traffic to be any worse than most cities around the country. I travel to the DC area for work every now and then, however, so maybe my perspective is tilted.

It is incredible at how much construction there is EVERYWHERE in Greenville, though. It's astounding how many housing units have been built in downtown in the last 10 years. But, man, what a downtown! It's easy to see why it has become a model downtown for mid-sized cities around the country.

Edit: Oh, and I bought a Gamecock t-shirt and polo at Walmart while I was down there. lol. I have no idea what brand they were or if the garnet color was an exact match to . . . whatever is considered the official color, which apparently doesn't exist anywhere. But everyone who sees them will immediately recognize them as Gamecock gear. I think they were about $34 combined.

I've had to return a Braves Nike T-shirt for the same reason in the past. It is what it is but Nike isn't the magical apparel company some fans seem to think.

My daughter is a senior at Wofford. They have a $150 polo. And their merch is not sold elsewhere. The bookstore and the bookstore online are the only options. I just have a nice polo in the correct colors that I wear to casual functions. When we moved her in Monday, she said she would wait to see what books she needs, so we skipped the bookstore entirely. Nothing for me there.

And I thought a $100 Master's polo from Augusta National was a splurge!

I went into a Bojangles in the NC mountains and was amazed how clean it was and how friendly the staff were. And they somehow got three orders right. The Bo' in my town is one of the worst in existence. You may ask yourself why I go there. I haven't in years. But I see plenty of complaints on social media. The last time I went there about 5 years ago to try their new signature chicken sandwich, they put the mayo on top of the bun, on the outside of the sandwich. Like someone said "Mayo goes on that sandwich" and the took it literally. I can't eat at a place with staff that stupid. There's no telling what they will do with the food.

I was in downtown Charleston at a bus stop and witnessed two people littering while standing beside a trash can.
