Apparently Trey Phipps hit 5 threes in a row in the state semifinal game in the 2nd half at a point when BTW was down double digits. BTW ended up winning the game with 2 FTs with under 2 seconds left.

If this Phipps kid can find an opening to shoot, he is pretty deadly. Maybe our version of Keiton Page?

He’s a lot taller.
Is he? I thought he barely touched 6" If he's bigger than that I don't have the same worries I had about a smaller guy getting his shot blocked on the outside

2 or 3 inches, especially 5'10" to 6' or 6'1" makes a world of difference. If Phipps' height was a lie,(6'1") You know 5'10" was fudged on with Keiton Page.

well everyone thought Kyler Murray was 5'9" and listed at 5'10" and when measured at the combine he was a true 5'10" +. And somehow that 1" pushed him to be a near consensus top overall pick.

Touche. But he's somewhere between 1 and 3 inches taller. I'm thinking it's 2 inches, and at that height 2" makes a lot of difference.

OK. I just thought he was really tiny, or looked tiny in the picture with Shea and Haith.

Phipps was listed at 6'1" last year as a sophomore. Don't know if he has grown.

It really does....Especially when you play match up zone.....Those longer arms and taller
posture make the passing lanes look smaller....

Paul Pressey played the point in Richardson's zone, and his incredibly long arms made
the court look awfully small......

If you look at the picture of Phipps + the coaches, he's almost the exact size of Paulino who is 6'1". Phipps might lack a couple of tenths of an inch on him, but i wouldn't say he's an inch shorter. He's honestly not too much shorter than Shea and Shea is what 6'5" ish? And that's a number of months ago. Phipps could still grow some more. I wouldn't be surprised to see him come in around 6'2" or 6'3". Shaq Harrison came in really young and grew an inch during his early TU career (both in listing and actuality)

Saw the kid from Putnam North tonight. We recruited him for a while but he is committed to SIU-Edwardsville. Hasn't signed LOI. He is the real deal looks like to me. Strong very quick point guard with quick and smooth release. Went for 45 tonight. Had a bunch of assist. Played with Rod's PWB last summer and had a very good summer. Averaged like 30 points a game last summer.
By the way, they beat #1 Edmond north last night and will play BTW with Phipps and Thompson tonight for 6a championship.

Bad part of yesterdays game is the issue with our coaching staff. Boynton and Sutton were there sitting with Rod while Shea was the only coach (where is Haith) from Tulsa and was sitting on the end. Our staff does not have the energy to recruit.

Boynton is just a tireless recruiter. Played in Waco on Weds night. Was in Virginia for an in home visit on Thursday then saw two recruits later that evening on the east coast. Made it to the Mabee Center yesterday to sit with Rod for Bryce’s game then played West Va this afternoon...and that’s typical for him. Still hasn’t proved he can coach but he won’t be outworked.

It would be an NCAA rules violation big time for a coach to be sitting next to a recruit's dad so I suspect he sat close and said hi a hundred times when accidentally walking by. That is the Bill Self approach. I'm surprised that TU didn't leave an assistant at the State games as they are not needed in Memphis.

So we can nail Boynton on a violation!

Or was it Scott's brother sitting in between Boynton and Rod? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Boyton sat two seat down from rod. Saw him talk to rod twice for short times. Some guy sitting in between rod and Scott.
Remember Haith and team flew to Memphis Friday night while Biyton was at home.
Tonight only see Sutton. My biggest complaint is Sutton able to sit on press row. Not sure I think that should be allowed. Suspect knowing mabee
helps him sit wherever he wants

Phipps was named MVP of the 6-A State Tournament by the Daily Oklahoman. Also named MVP by the Tulsa World.

Class 6A Boys

MVP: Trey Phipps, Tulsa Washington

Phipps, a Tulsa commit and the son of Tulsa Washington coach Conley Phipps, stole the spotlight from Putnam North’s Micah Thomas in the title game with a career-high 42 points. Phipps, a fiery guard, only improved throughout the tournament, making bigger plays each day while helping the Hornets win a state-record 16th title

Player, school;;PPG

Seth Hurd, Tulsa Washington;;19.7

Trey Phipps, Tulsa Washington;;21.7

Tobias Roland, Putnam North;;13.3

Micah Thomas, Putnam North;;35.7

Jordan Thompson, Southmoore;;18.5

My feelings are still mixed on Haith, but for those who are calling for his head, we lose Hill most likely(too many bigger schools recruiting him) and maybe Phipps(relationship w/ Haith & Co)-both, of course, depending on who's hired- if he gets the boot.

My hope - a top recruiting assistant hire with serious connections, a salary cut, and a short extension.

Rod T would be great. B. G. too if he is up to it. Or anyone who has deep connections in the region and good sales ability.

Hill, maybe. Education is the thing bringing Phipps. Won't matter one bit whether Haith is here or not. If he signs with someone else it will be his decision bout the school, not Haith.

I believe this will be the likely result based on things I've heard....assuming Haith is willing and able to accomplish the same.

Billy Graham as an assistant, didn't he die already?

That would be funny to see Haith hire his replacement, B.G.

I finally saw some of the highlights of the game on Saturday night. I believe I saw one play in the 4th where Phipps was out on the break and pulled up from 3 and nailed it. I don't think there was a defender in front of him when he pulled up. There was another break where he threw an perfect lead pass to someone from BTW who went in and jammed it. Everything I saw from Phipps that night pointed to him being more of a Phil Forte type of player than a Keiton Page type.
