Top 35 PG just commited to UNLV. Kobi Simmoms may be out of the picture for the Rebels.

Dave Rice sure can recruit. Not so sure he can coach, however.

As far as Kobi Simmons, UNLV seemed like they were third in the running behind Kentucky and Ohio State.

Dave Rice can recruit. That makes four 5 star commits, and eight 4 stars in 5 years. Plus some pretty high-profile transfers.

And UNLV's record has gotten worse every year Rice has been there. Which raises the question of what that recruiting is worth if he can't do a damn thing with those players. I think he'd best show some progress soon- they have to be getting impatient.

I won't say it's worth nothing since recruiting is obviously a huge part of college basketball, but you can only fall back on your recruiting for so long if you're not getting results on the court. Although he may get a somewhat longer leash than another coach would since he was on those great UNLV teams.

That's kind of what I thought as well. Wonder if UK is about to have another "special assistant to the head coach" position open up again next year?

Pastner is not a Cal guy......he was an assistant for 1 YEAR! Cal put in a word for his,former assistants but Pastner ends up getting the call. Pastner was driving rough bowling green talking to recruits to get them to come to uk when he got the call from Memphis. .Cal is not as close with pastner as most would think. Memphis hired pastner because they thought pastner had something to do with Cousins, Bledsoe .Wall. Henry , Dodson ect....

That's definitely fair. I just remember the whole dramatic "let me make it easy for you. You're fired from the University of Kentucky" story. I had in my head that he was there for more than one year before Cal left.

Have to admit though, at this point, it would almost be humorous to see it happen just to spite Memphis. But, I think they filled that spot with their analytics guy, if I'm not mistaken.
