Not sure we need him.
I would take Daniel Giddens in a heartbeat. John Petty is a wing. Petty had his chance to be a Wildcat but he didn’t have the courage to pull the trigger. I haven’t been that impressed with him. If he had played up to his ability in February, AJ might not have lost his job. Whitney and Allen are both longer than Petty. Petty would not beat out Whitney here. If Allen is expected to be physically sound, we don’t need Petty.

I will give you Patterson, but Fields lawyer said they didn't even bring up the racial incident and that it had nothing to do with his transfer.

My point is, if you lawyer up, it seems more and more likely you will be granted immediate eligibility in today's climate.
Probably true but there has to be something to go on. What did he claim was the basis for his waiver request?

If they allow some form of free agency, they will destroy NCAA sports. It's ridiculous.

I thought they did nowadays?

I could be wrong but isn't it allowing seniors to transfer and play immediately? That might be only if there are violations that prevent the team from going to the postseason their last year.

Petty just said that there was no easy way out, but he had to make the decision he was comfortable with.

What exactly would those hardships rules be? It is moronic to assume he gets a harship and all other transfers would not.
If you read the hardship rules, its hard to understand how this is happening. They've probably already created precedent for a form of free agency.

This is going to cost Alabama in the short run, what is that 3 players leaving and Hall graduates. That's 4 starters and more may leave. Whoever they get is going to have to start over, it's not going to be easy.

And have to compete with Bruce for in-state talent. I would like to know what the odds are, in Vegas, for Bama to win the SEC next year. They will battle it out with Vandy for the cellar.

No Petty.

Kid was wildly inconsistent. Wasn't even starting at end of year.

Exactly.

In this case, all the Bama players have to do is say the hardship is the coach they committed to, and that promised them he would be there for four years, was released of his duties. (I get it, AJ was an employee, players are not), but their lawyer will just say a commitment and promise was broken to the players, and his clients deserve the right to do what is best for themselves.

You’re right, but I feel like Bama overall doesn’t really care considering their football program is in the midst of a dynasty?

Perhaps I’m wrong

Bama fan here. Rumor circulating right now is Thad Matta is gonna be the hire and he's on campus right now. I'm taking it with a grain until it's official, but it would be a very nice hire.

Jeff Goodman cleared his tweet up about Petty:

So he may or may not be going.

John Petty, Daniel Giddens of Alabama Basketball enter NCAA Transfer Portal

"TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - AL.com is reporting that per a source, sophomore guard and Huntsville native John Petty, as well as redshirt junior forward Daniel Giddens, have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Petty and Giddens become the third and fourth Alabama Men's Basketball players to enter the transfer portal since Monday, joining guards Dazon Ingram and Kira Lewis Jr.

The former Mae Jemison Jaguar, Petty, averaged 10.2 points per game in his sophomore campaign, while Giddens, a former transfer from Ohio State appeared in 14 games this season averaging 1.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.2 minutes per game.

According to Stadium basketball analyst Jeff Goodman, John Petty had told him that there is still a chance he stays at Alabama, depending on the new coach."

"Alabama junior John Petty, the state’s Mr. Basketball, has been a UK fan since watching John Wall and Eric Bledsoe play. His coach is also a Kentucky basketball fan. He was the first player in the 2017 recruiting class offered by Calipari."

I'd take John Petty on my bench. He'd been senior age when eligible. He could be deadly under the right coaching. TAKE HIM!
