This is going to cost Alabama in the short run, what is that 3 players leaving and Hall graduates. That's 4 starters and more may leave. Whoever they get is going to have to start over, it's not going to be easy.

Plus, Avery had three top 100 guys coming in. Most of those guys will probably head elsewhere.

You have to think were gonna pluck at least one of these transfers or recruits as a result of all these coaching changes.

It was a terrible decision to fire Avery. Alabama needs to know their role in the SEC. They will never be a perennial power. Deal with it and take an NCAA trip every few years.

Would assume anyone who transfers from Bama will be eligible immediately. Kids rarely have to sit out a year anymore. Look what is happening in college football. Essentially a free agency where transferring kids just claim a "hardship".

I wouldn't mind grabbing petty, although I'm 99% sure bama will block UK as an option. He would have to except a bench role though

I don't think so.

Why? Tate Martell just transferred from Ohio St. because Justin Fields transferred in from Georgia and Martell was going to lose his starting QB spot. Martell was granted immediate eligibility and is now with Miami. This has more merit of a hardship with a coach being fired, than Martell not wanting to compete.

Alabama is going to be a mess, Giddens, Petty, Lewis and Ingram are all in the transfer portal.

Because Martell met the hardship waiver rules, that is the only way one is granted. Losing your coach has no merit, though I think it should.

What exactly was his hardship? I am curious.

All you have to do is get the lawyer Martell/Patterson/Fields used, and you should be fine.

Edit: Lawyer is Travis Leach

“There were some things that happened at Ohio State that we can potentially get some relief from the NCAA, and we’re going to try it that way. The coaching staff turnover is an issue. There are a few things. There’s no real bright-line test that tells you 100 percent how you can get a waiver. This is a tough one, but there are some good facts on his side.”

“If the NCAA is really looking to do what’s in the best interest of the kids, I feel pretty comfortable with a waiver — if you look at it purely through that lens,” Leach said. “We have good facts, but we want to do it the right way. We want it to be fair to everybody. It’s just a situation that didn’t work out. We don’t want to be negative.”

Maybe Petty is transferring to run down his dream.

Seems with Petty leaving, Alabama is free falling.
I know a lot here weren’t alive back in the day, but “Runnin’ Down A Dream” is one of my all time favs! Best road tripping song ever! Pick any road in Wyoming. Just watch out for cattle. They have the right of way.

Patterson was unique in that he claimed a dishonest recruitment by Freeze (not telling him about forthcoming sanctions). Fields was because of the racial incident at UGA.

I will give you Patterson, but Fields lawyer said they didn't even bring up the racial incident and that it had nothing to do with his transfer.

My point is, if you lawyer up, it seems more and more likely you will be granted immediate eligibility in today's climate.

Part of the reasoning for firing Avery was noted the mood of the locker room where it was perceived the team lost faith in Avery as coach.

If after the coach is fired there is a mass exodus (ok two) then one could be led to believe that the players were pretty tight with Avery
