A job at USC would certainly position Dan for a national championship. If your making $4M+ a year, Southern California is a really nice place to live (and even raise kids). My theory is that Dan wouldn't take the job because they would not have near the tolerance for his ego as we do is Starkville. I've got to think USC has as many money boys and straphangers from the glory days as UTexas has, making it a toxic environment with little control allocated to the head coach.

Just my theory.

I hope Dan is happy too. Actually, I'm pretty sure he's happy. I hope USC doesn't offer him the job. That's the only one of the jobs open I could see him possibly leaving for. Agree that this isn't an ideal year for us to be looking for a new coach, if it comes to that. But we'll still be a very attractive job. None of the jobs open are clearly better, and really only South Carolina is equal. As for Manny, the only way he leaves is for a head coaching job, and I can't see many mid-majors who would be able to match his salary as DC here.

I agree. BUT! If it did happen, hypothetically, I would do whatever it took to get Fuente. The talking public; "He's only done what he's done because of that QB"
Me; " No ****. Look at what he would inherit at state."
Public; " But can he recruit?"
Me; "He already knows the area and now has an SEC program to sell."

It would be a good fit......we'd have to come off some serious money due to competition for him. Or.......he may go tell us to get bent.
