Last time, when did they start hating customers? By customers, I mean white people.

Btw...food is delicious.

I'm going to say something really unfair to them.

They have always been this way.

Never made sense to me, how you can be rude to the people who keep you in business?

Yeah, I went there the other day and certainly didn’t feel like my business was appreciated, but the food was damn good so I didn’t really care.

Want service with a smile? Go to chic fil a.

Want some solid BBQ in a styrofoam box? Go to Petty's.

This isn't difficult.

There was a BBQ place like this in the town where I grew up. They really seemed to hate their customers. Service with a scowl. Customer service was their middle finger. Extremely racist, hated white folks 100%.

But good lord that BBQ was amazing. White folks lined up out the door for a couple of pounds and a slab of ribs.

I guess it was just a mutually beneficial arrangement. Good times.

Good food, ain't enough

in the business world, hold your tongue.

It will catch up with you.

Don't go there often, but when I have, never had a problem.

What are you all getting at Petty's that is good? I went there once and got the pulled pork; it was a pile of sweet mush. Taste and texture was more like rice pudding than BBQ. Didn't give it a second try because of the food and the fact that a drunk wanna be gang-banger was cussing and causing a scene.

Where is Petty's? I feel like we've discussed this before. Is it an outside roadside establishment on 12 with a few picnic tables?

That's the place. All the ambiance of any gas station with a barrel smoker on Northside Drive in Jacktown.

Last time we went it wasn't good at all. The food, that is. Tasted like liquid smoke was an ingredient. The service seemed acceptable. We picked up four pulled pork sandwiches for the 2013 Regional, I think. I had 3 bites hoping it would get better. The rest of my group had less. We tossed 'em. Which is a shame. Cochise Sr seemed to recall a time when it was good.

Last time I went there, I waited for ~40 minutes for a simple BBQ plate. The food was awful, and I haven't been back.

I tried it this year and it was nasty... fat, tough brisket and the pulled pork was as previously stated ...mushy and soaked in grease ....

Same here. I wouldn't judge it that harshly, but it was always just acceptable barbeque when I went (granted it's been a while). The service was sometimes terrible, usually just a little chilly. Never assumed it was a race thing though; just assumed they weren't friendly people (which does not mean they're not nice people).

Never understood why people thought it was so good.

Bwahahahahahahahaha. I stated that in a post here in 2010. Petty straight-up acts aggrevated by some white folks. The food is the **** though. He is about as friendly as the roasted corn people at the fair every year. Again. Awesome product but his customer service is lacking. He may just hate peoplenin general. Come to think of it I e never seen black people standing in line at Petty’s.

Thread Hijack: You want terrible service, go to Room Service in Jackson for salads and sandwiches. Hays Thompson (owner) frames the nasty letters and Yelp reviews and puts them on the wall, he nor his staff give any Fvcks what you have to say or if you come back. Apparently people think it's good because he's been doing it a long time. The sandwiches I've had were picked up by somebody else but we're really good so I've never had to deal with them. I've known Hays for probably 30 years and he's good folks, a little eccentric but good folks

I don’t think that you should jump to the conclusion that if a black man doesn’t provide you the BBQ service you’d like, he hates white people. Come on man.

I use to deal with him away from the BBQ joint frequently when I lived there. He doesn’t hate white people, he’s just isn’t friendly

His ex-wife and son are always friendly at the window to me. Petty just thinks he is Muhammad Ali. It's his schtick. Also going to vowells and buying melons and selling them at 500% markup cracks me up there. It still has the sticker on it.

That pretty much sums up....

the service that you get in any southern town and especially the deep south. ****** service, rude employees, I've come to expect it. We travel a lot, and we always comment when we come back home that it's a noticeable difference between how employees treat customers in the South compared to say the Midwest or even the Northeast. Hell, even New York city service workers are more respectful.

Me and a buddy from college go to pettys. We get the same thing. He pays 2$ less than me. I go up for a refill and he charges me 25 cents. He goes for a refill and gets it free. The only difference between us is he is black. I have not been back sense.

I’m not sure if it’s abt black and white
May be. May not be.

But the service sucks.

2 experiences come to mind immediately.

1. Went with a big group to sit outside. They would only give each person 1 pack of ketchup and 1 napkin. Every sing person in group (5 or 6) went up and asked for napkins and ketchup. after the first few came back with one and one, we all started asking for more. Wouldn’t give them to us. Said they were watching costs.

2. Ordered to go for a friend one day. Got the bbq grill cheese sandwich and asked for a side of bbq sauce. Got home with food. Friend dips his sandwich twice before realizing it’s a side of ............ Diet Coke. Yes. A small 3 oz styrofoam side of Diet Coke. It might have had a little whiskey mixed in.

The food is hit and miss. Sometimes it’s great and sometimes it’s just ok. The service sucks and petty himself can be an ***.

I haven’t been in a few years, but Petty’s was the best BBQ in town. I consider myself to be somewhat particular when it comes to BBQ. And I’m not a Dooey’s fan.

Service was never great, they never smiled or said thank you, but they were always decent.

I don’t care much for their sauce though. I usually got it to go with sauce in the side, and took it home where I had my preferred BBQ sauce.
