Perry Noble removed for struggles with alcohol and marriage problems, just announced now

How'd that happen? I thought he was worshiped as god, had brainwashed people into giving him all their money, was in total and absolute control of everything. Guess I misread the situation.

Interesting to see what happens now but I'm told they have another guy ready to step in. It's always intrigued me the way a church can be built up from one personality. New Spring is fundamentally evangelical but has been more about being different and edgy under Nobles leadership.

This may sound awful but I'm glad it wasn't something worse, which we've seen from church leaders in the past. The last thing we need is for the national media to have something else to persecute Christianity for. Hope he gets the help he needs.

As much as dislike the guy, and I feel like he has been misleading a lot of people, I am glad it isnt something bigger (ie stealing money or Sandusky)

So all those books he sold to the church and his salary that was funded by extorted poor people, went to fund his vice?

Really, he had a salary commensurate with his contribution, what he did with it is his own business until it interferes with his ability to do his job, looks like now he did... don't see how he extorted anyone. Bible is quite clear on tithing and that is not specific to newspring.

Even more reason to pray for him IMO

I agree . I don't know the man or the church but I know people who go there . Regardless of his current difficulties I believe a lot of good has come from him and his church , a lot of people have come to Christ and to their better selves . IMHO I'll leave judgement to God And hope this man rights his situation .

Pastors should not be making millions and telling poors to give give give. The Bible is clear on it but Perry pressures people as his primary motive. That's the problem I have with it. Talk about it twice a year. Not twice a sermon.

I am neither a bible beater nor an atheist, and have a TON of faults and a million things to improve upon to even live up to the standards that my father and grandfather demonstrated and set for me to follow...but one of the major problems I have with religion today, especially those that are on the extreme side of religion, is the consistent and astounding level of hypocrisy that exists in churches and Christian chest thumpers today

IMO, we ALL have a hell of a long way to go just to be good to each other and treat others as we want to be treated...if we can end up accomplishing that, even if we have a little fun along the way, I'm good with accepting some of our other "minor" flaws

You know that Perry's salary was millions?

Actually that was the Catholic Church's way of taxing people for the Romans. I'm pretty sure God doesn't need poor people's $. I could be wrong though.

It is in the Old Testament. It is not part of the New Covenant. Perry has threatened bad things will happen to you if you don't tithe and even tried to tell people the Seed and the Sower was about tithing...that is beyond pathetic.

Listening to their services, and I have listened to many of them, they put tithing above everything else.

I have called Perry Nobel a joke and a disgrace to to cause of Chirst on this board. He had people following and worshiping him and not God. With that said it is sad to see so many that are hurt this morning because of this. And the other posters are correct anyone can fall/fail.

I know the ugly responses are going to come but this is not a time to step on the man. Pray for him, the church, and his family.

Can someone explain prayer to me? How does it work exactly?

Let's say that I "pray" for this guy and the church and his family. Am I asking God to redirect his efforts from whatever he was already working on? Like "hey God, there's an issue over here that I think you might be interested in.." If God knows everything already, don't you think he's already working hard to correct whatever is wrong with Perry Noble?

Honestly, I think there's more to it. We'll see.

Had to be for sure more than just a "normal" alcohol struggle for him to be permanently removed from a church that he built.

Perry has that compulsive mentality. He preached that way. Always trying to push the envelope as much as possible. I went every Sunday for a few months during college, and every Sunday he would say "You're only gonna hear this at NewSpring" or "I'm gonna get emails about this" or "You want believe what we are gonna talk about NEXT Sunday."

It got old really quickly, always trying to "one up" the previous week. I'm sure his wife was never "good enough". Mixing alcohol abuse with that type of personality, combined with depression... probably pretty serious stuff.

This. It is pathetic is you think God wants 10 percent of your money and if you don't give it to him he have your transmission go out, or you a/c break or your kid will get sick.

First of all it's unfortunate for the congregation that he leads . For him to be removed so quickly without any comments from him tells me there could be more than could possibly come out after everything settles possibly legally

My guess is it has been going on for a while...and I don't mean months, I mean years.

Give Newspring credit for doing what they did. Not really surprised he struggled with alcohol given his struggle with depression and anxiety. Hope he gets the help he needs. Im sure a lot of people are in a church listening to a preacher that's has done a lot worse today. I'm willing to bet some good ole southern baptist churches are having a party to celebrate today. The hypocrisy of organized religion is the reason why people continue to leave churches.
