Not sure if this has been mentioned...but the little things matter so much in a basketball game. Cam's winning 3 is made a hell of a lot easier when the ball hits him in the hands as he steps to the 3pt line. Paul draws the defense - 2 defenders.....Cliff draws a defender....Paul throws a BB to the perfect spot for Cam....Cam does what Cam does.

The perfect pass makes it a smidge easier for Cam to knock that down. Little things are a big deal.

The importance of passing to shooters accurately right in the pocket is very underrated

Good post

I saw a stupid post somewhere saying that paul had low basketball IQ - citing the flops as evidence. I don’t believe I responded to that post but my thoughts in response to it were:

(1) what a stupid post as paul, overall, is a very smart player and

(2) people commonly only recognize the bad plays and miss all of the good, smart, well executed plays (with that play being the one that came to mind). The less smart play would have been to force it into cliff (as that was more likely in his line of sight and was the FIRST thing available). But we waited (knowing how the play would develop!!) and made the SMARTER pass to cam.

He’s got a high basketball IQ. But he does let the refs frustrate him too much.

Paul is an emotional cat for sure…might be his one flaw as a player. But his vision, IQ, skill set, size, and competitiveness make him a special player. He makes the guys around him better.

I define it differently. I wouldn’t say he has high bball IQ. He often makes bad decisions (bad turnovers) trying to be too cute and pretty. Isn’t that what high IQ would prevent ?

And what about defense ? Isn’t Spencer the guy who anticipates passes ?

Paul’s IQ starts and stops with knowing to use his size against smaller defenders, which doesn’t take brains. He’s been doing it for 15 years.

Good player, not a smarter player than many others.
