Needed to get a couple Juco DTs as a stop-gap.

You don’t take JUCO’s just to take them. If they suck then it doesn’t do you any good. Just ask Jackie Sherrill about the Arizona Western kids. It’s also why Kareem Walker was likely a wasted scholarship, but I digress.

We did try to get the Schad kid that signed with Minnesota but couldn’t flip him. It generally was not a great year for JUCO DT’s. Also added a transfer that we were expecting to be eligible and then the NCAA changed a rule and it screwed us on that one. We also didn’t know that Autry would be out for 8 games until after the recruiting cycle was over.

If you want to blame some of it on Joe then be my guest, but Mullen did screw us over in recruiting at that position, it’s just a fact.

Couldn't we change some of our TEs to DTs?***

Somebody put that graphic up. We've had one TE in Roberson transfer out and we still have a **** load of TEs.

Yes the Allen Love NCAA screw job was classic MSU getting hosed. That's a big one right there with or without Autry.

Oh I totally agree Mullen left a huge gap in recruiting at DT. And the Love scenario is unfortunate for sure.

Look at the roster and let it sink in what is there. There are almost as many k/p as DT. LB is a ticking time bomb if moorehead doesn’t find some graduate transfers Jucos.

I'm glad someone besides me has noticed this. This kinda stuff is why I'm not on the fire Joe bandwagon. He is having to play freshmen all over the place. Running back, def backs, and def tackle. It's great that they get playing time but you can't win with true freshmen or even redshirt freshmen.

9 true freshmen have played so far this year. 9 out of 17. Good experience and hopefully this years class of recruits will like the chance to play early next year. We will need them for sure

If only Mullen had recruited a better DL then the offense wouldn’t get delay of game penalties on the opening play. Dammit, Don!!1!

Yes, JoMo should have.

Then Gay seemingly took the easy route.

JoMo offered the two or three decent Juco DT’s and they chose MN, TN and AU. We got the UL transfer for the portal but we are not a blue blood so he has to sit out. Or did you mean just get a warm body? Could’ve but who would you have dropped from the signing class for a warm body?

We gave a scholarship to a punter who had exhausted his eligibility and a RB who will be processed out in December....

So you agree he’s fielding a team that’s terrible in every phase.

I say move Stewart Reese over there after seeing him lay K State's DB out after the interception.

Yes. Part of the reason Auburn ran over us was because of our young d-line. Part of the reason we were good last year was because of an extremely talented/upperclassmen heavy d-line. The SEC is a league that is fought in the trenches and we are playing a bunch of freshman. Our guys are literally going to get blown of the ball every play against good SEC opponents and there is no "scheme" that will make a difference. Football is a game of physicality and a bunch of freshman just aren't going to be strong enough. A lot of the guys they are playing against have been in SEC strength/conditioning programs for 3/4 years and probably bench 150 more lbs than they do and squat 250 more pounds than they do. This is why Autry's absence is so devastating. We desperately need meat up front and we don't have it.

Also, what happened to Allen Love the transfer from Louisville?

It's actually a bigger problem than that. Next year, this will be the list of sophomores:

Lovett
Crumedy
Love
Young
Pickering

How many do we really need in one class? Jackson will be a junior. We have Cooley coming in as a freshman. Looks like we have 3 JUCO DEs, but we're actually OK there.

We really need to redshirt Pickering. Not sure how much he's played this year but I see no reason to burn that.
