I'll bet that's not the full picture. Ash has a relationship with Herman also. I would bet that they collaborated on this move to help Mehringer save some face. For public perception purposes, Mehringer leaving on his own saves face and keeps him viable as an OC at some point down the road.
Herman was the one that convinced Ash to hire Mehringer, and then ironically stole him back.

If anything, this bodes extremely well for Rutgers future in terms of the recruits response and commitment to the program and not a coordinator.

My only question in all of this is timing. Normally, staffs stay together through signing day. Did Mehringer stiff Ash here?

Hey, lots of Millenialls have to move back into daddy's basement once they find out how tough the real world actually is.

Can't blame the guy.

Wearing big boy pants is hard.

or ran back to his mentor because making the RU O a good one was a little to tough for him this point ion his coaching career..
More than likley this was a face saving move engineered by Drew and Herman because of their closeness and Herman going to be in charge of the offense on the field calling the plays and let Mehringer reap the reward as passing game coordinator ( maybe co:OC title in name only) so his time as the RU OC doesn't look as bad on his resume.

sure, yes - of course.

and whether Ash had any sort of "hand" in it, is really irrelevant.

But, the move is short sighted. Let's say UT is great -- what does that prove? It proves Herman is a great coach.

All it proves for Merhringer is he's nothing more than a good assistant on a staff of other good coaches...

Some day he can try being OC at some MEAC or MAC school.... good luck to him....

Makes sense to me.

His youth actually cost him. That or his hair style.
What's the problem? Hair today, gone tomorrow!

The Rutgers Football Coaching Internship Program continues... Who's the next hirer? Molly McGrath?

This program needs to win immediately - not in 5 years! So let's hirer a 28 year old who wants to install (and only knows how to coach) an up tempo spread offense, on a team whose offense is built to run out of the pro-style I. 2 and 10 here we come!Incidentally, we'll be staying there for awhile as statewide enthusiasm for the program builds.

I'd donate $50,000 to the hiring of Molly McGrath.

Coach Ash did what many first time coaches do
fail to make profession coaching choices yes time was short...it always is
But by the grace of Texas we relieved ourselves of one mistake
Now onto his other mistakes DC and ST coaches.
this is the hardest of pry out as they are old friends from Iowa days.
I said it when he hired them it is hard to fire a friend!
This is where coach ash has to put on his big boy pants and cut his losses.
on a personal note CA does not seem to have that cut your loses and move on attitude he seems like he wants to work thru issues
