How many QBs are Ole Miss going to try and sign? I honestly don't understand Freeze's recruiting strategy. Shouldn't he be trying to get some OL and DL guys?

MSU but will be enrolling atUM in the fall........Apparently, she is moving up there and getting an apartment, which she will prolly have to work two jobs to afford.......
Somebody else is paying for the apartment Plus $25,000 each year at the start of football season. I guess Bama could come up with more.
I'm not a recruiting expert by any means but in-home visits are a part of recruiting. A lot of kids that don't ever get offers still get visited. Liggins makes his decision Monday. If he chooses UM then we'll offer the Ga kid. Its that simple. Anything that happens in between now and then doesn't mean anything.
Schuessler is only 17 and Freeze believes it will work best if he grey shirts and signs with the 2013 class but if Mullen elects to offer then hes in the boat.

Also, the other Georgia QB hs prospect, Steven Bench has declined our invitation for a official visit and is going to stick with his commitment to Penn St.

it possible that Freeze sees grades being an issue for some of his QBs that are currently on roster? Which would entail them being ineligiable? I'm not sure, I don't have an "inside guy" on this issue. But it's something a UM (former GA) told me MIGHT be a posdibilitt for why he's got & going after SO many QBs. Even my buddy said it's gotta be tge dumbest thing he's seen from a UM coach since Coach O's going for it on 4th down. Just some perspective. Thoughts?
We're signing 7 QBs and Ward. That's it.
Rosebowl is a moron. We need QBs. We're signing QBs (3 of them if we get Liggins), and Liggins is the No. 1 priority of the 3. Not sure if we have a back up plan for a 3rd QB if we don't get Liggins.

It was mentioned on Ole Miss boards a while back.

that QBs would fill10percent of their 85-man roster.
Good thing they don't have any other needs.

I assume you're talking about Taveze Calhoun. We wouldn't haveoffered him if we didn't have extra spots late last year. However he's had very positive reviews from practice. He was reported to have seen playing time last yearbut he ended up breaking his collar bone or something.
Freeze is using the Orgeron method of working the perimeter of a recruits family support structure. He's making everyone who could influence the recruit happy. Therefore a whole lot of deals.
Or are you trying to tell me Beathard really has a shot to play QB at Ole Miss and is not just getting a scholly to secure Mathers? And Ward's brother isn't getting a scholarship. And the younger Nkemdiche and chasing Schuessler are bait for the older Nkemdiche. (obvously Nutt brought in the younger Nkemdiche)

of your old not quite as pathetic self. For someone who doesn't care about recruiting, you sure have been on top of things, especially State's the last 2 years spending a lot of time over hear not keeping up. Why don't you do yourself and everybody on this board a favor, and just take a vacation from this board? Coman is not a package deal. Same with Market. In a package deal, it's all or nothing. We take those guys regardless of their supposed other halves. Pretty sure we've been over this atleast 10 times.
I can't wait until 4 in a row, but even if it were 10 in a row, it will never shut you people up. Pathetic.

By signing so many QBs and allocating so many of your scholarships to a position that usually only plays 1 person is beyond crazy. That is why OM is 2-10 and 4-8 and will continue that trend as long as those recruiting practices remain.OM doesn't have any quality depth on the OL or DL nor at DB right nowyet they think they need 7 scholarship QBs and 6 RBs. I love that thinking for them as a MSU fan. It will just lead to more of the same griping and complaining by the OM fans when they can't stay on the field depth wise with MSU or any other SEC team. MSUwill be able to play 2 quality OLs and DLs and they will be struggling to put 1 quality line on each side of the ball together. It would piss me off if I was an OM fan that Freeze isn't over signing on the OL and DL vs. the QB and RB position.
So while 1 QB plays the other 6 scholarships are sitting on the sidelines not able to do a thing. That is a great way to self impose yourself a scholarship ban. It isn't like you will be able to get all 7 of those kids quality reps next year. 3 of the 6 QBs on the bench could have been OL or DL getting a RS and developing for the future but yet OM feels it is a better investment to have a QB sit on the bench and forgo developing a quality 2 deep on the OL and DL. Crazy thinking by Freeze.

Bruiser has always been a ****. Don't act like he was once a decent poster. He's a living, breathing excuse machine for everything Ole Miss and serves no useful purpose on this earth.
in the state whether he needed him or not. Course that was before scholly limits. I know what`s going on now isn`t necessarily a good analogy but Vaught always felt like with the QB he was signing one of the best and smartest athletes on the team. He damn sure made it work out plus it kept us from signing some of them. Oh the bad old days.
We've got 3 QBs on our roster right now (2 seniors and a junior). If we only signed 1 QB in this class, we'd go into 2013 with only 2 QBs on our roster plus whatever freshmen we added in the 2013 class. That's why we're hoping to sign 3 QBs in this class.
And Beathard was a commitment to Nutt's staff. He as likely part of a package to help ensure Mathers, and Freeze has honored that. I'll admit that.
On the RB thing, we have only 3 scholarship RBs on our team right now, 2 of which don't play, and the third is a knucklehead who may get himself kicked off. I think we're undersigning RBs honestly. It's looking like we may only have 3 or so come in on scholarship for the fall at the position. I say we need at least 4 at that position.
Since you're so concerned about our lines, take a look at our roster. We have 12 returning scholarship OL. With the 4 we're adding in this class, that'll bring us to 16 OL on the roster for 2012, and only 2 of those 16 will be seniors. We've got 9 scholarship DL on the roster, and we're adding at least 3 to that, bringing us to 12 for 2012. 4 of those 12 will be seniors, so I expect that in the 2013 class, we'll be going after more DL. My guess is we'd go after at least 4 or 5 DL in 2013.
If you're going to make broad brush statements about our roster planning, at least take a look at it before you do so.

Mackey = Sr. Also may not be on the team come the fall.
Stout = Sr. I hope he never sees the field again
Brunetti = Jr. unknown how he will adapt to the new offense
Beathard = a redshirt and a wait and see how he develops
Wallace = Possible starter
Liggins = bring him in to compete against Wallace
Miller = TE
So yes this year we may have several QB's but next year we will have 4 just like ya'll did last year if we get Liggins. If ya'll sign Liggins we will have exactly 1 more QB this year than ya'll had last year.
We have 1 RB who has seen playing time we need all the help we can get there.
I also expect next year to be heavy on the OL and DL. Let's not forget that Freeze hasn't had that much time to recruit let's judge his ability next class after he has had a full year to recruit.

We've got 13 DL on the current roster, losing a senior and a junior(Cox and Ferguson), = 11 DL. Adding 2 EE's currently enrolled, one at each spot we lost(Quay and Autry) = back to 13. We add an additional 6 current commits = 19 scholarship DL. We enter next season with 4 SR DL, 2 JR DL, 3 SO DL, 3rs FR DL, 7true FR DL(some of which will assuredly redshirt).
We've got 16 OL on the current roster, losing 3 seniors(Lawrence, Saulsberry, Carmon) = 13 OL. Adding 3 EE's currently enrolled, again one at each spot we lost(Senior, Holley, and Siddoway) = back to 16. We add an additional 2 current commits = 18 scholarship OL. We enter next season with 3 SR OL, 4 JR OL, 5 SO OL, 3rs FR OL, 3true FR OL(will probably all rs).
19/18 vs 16/12. I would go through and show the talent gaps/holes in classes that Nutt allowed to happen, but that'd just be beating a dead horse at this point. Bottom line is, Freeze is currently NOT recruiting in a fashion that will allow him to sustain long-term success. Just my opinion. Regardless of what's currently on campus, you've still got to sign BALANCED classes every year. You can NOT build position depth, at least not quality position depth, in one year. Oversigning for a single position(same age) will also lead to continued attrition, some of which will be bad attrition. This is magnified because we're talking about skill positions here. Yes, you are behind at the RB and QB position. We are behind at the QB position. That doesn't mean that you go and bring in 5 at each position trying to cure a long-term depth problem at once, in a single year. Oversigning skill positions like this DOES cause forsaking other key positions, primarily in the trenches. You can't fix a qb/rb issue like you have in a single signing class. Just not going to happen. The harder you try at this, the worse you will end up failing IMO.
IMO, in a similar situation, Freeze is making the SAME mistake that Cohen made upon his arrival in Starkville(and the same mistake Nutt's regime made in Oxford). He's looking for a "quick fix" just to survive next season, while forsaking any semblance of a long-term goal or gameplan. This cost us dearly on Cohen's first 2 recruiting classes, because he was trying to "fix" us through the juco ranks. Now we've got a baseball team that will be relying on fr/so at 7 of the 8 positions on the field. Talented but young. Had he gone after elite hs talent from day 1, we'd be stocked to the gills with talented upperclassmen now, intermixed with these young guys. In contrast, this is something Mullen has done correctly from DAY 1 in Starkville. Give up a little bit in the present for alot more in the future. You can easily see how well he's done recruiting depth by the consistent "flow" of incoming/outgoing talent in the trenches. So much so that we're close(if not at) the point that we can run platoons with very little drop off on the DL, while allowing OL 3+ years to develop together as a group. The dividends have started to payoff on the dl and will really start kicking in on the OL for the 2013 season...this year, we are still going to be a patchwork group there IMO...

But let me make this point. Freeze came in late and Nutt didn't try. Most good teams do exactly what you posted the problem is most of the good OL and DL were either already committed or Freeze and co. didn't have enought time to get them to OM. Freeze took the recurit he thought he could get and went after them I would expect to see a differant approach in 2013. I really expect a heavy OL and DL class. I think Freeze is doing the best he can do given the situation he was handed.

And the roster was what it was when he got there. I was just originally pointing out how he's using the Orgeron method of 'influencing the influencers'. It's not rocket science or something that unusual, a lot of coaches do it. But if you go that route you'll end up dealing with a whole lot of hangers on, mentors, moms, et al... That's a lot of people to make happy. Sometimes it works out, Channing's bro got a scholly and Ole Miss get's Channing. Seems like a fair deal. Sometimes you pay up front and never get the payback in the end.
Freeze's current situation really isn't a "fair" thing to compare either. He hasn't been here long enough to understand the ebbs and flows of talent at the highschool level in MS. He hasn't been able to do hardly any(if any) actual player evaluation in MS highschools. To be truly fair, he needs 3-4 years before we can accurately judge him in this way. He's that far behind. For instance, you bring up "signing heavily on the dl next year." Well, it's clear to talent evaluators across the state that there is an(almost) complete shortage of major DL talent in MS next year. I've seen this mentioned multiple times already. So, where this year provided the best dl crop in 10 years in MS(maybe ever), next year will be far below average. This would make sense of why State took so many DL this year, if we know there won't be much to have next year, and we'll most likely split it with you anyway.
The problem with all this talk is, if history is any indication, the people of OM aren't going to be patient enough to let Freeze's gameplan completely play out, and he won't get a truly fair chance...

What would you have him do different?
They're already having to take chances on some guys because it's a transition class, and it wasn't fully stocked when he arrived, unlike the one Mullen inherited from Croom.
They're taking the best players they can get this year on short notice. This was definitely the year to recruit DL in Mississippi. Unfortunately, it was also a transition year for us, and we lost steam in that regard, so we're going to likely end up with only 3 DL signed in a year when we could've possibly signed 6 quality ones. Can't change that now. Just have to go after it next year and hope we can land some good ones. We'll likely have to go out of state for some next year, which fortunately we've been able to do some in the past.
On the QB thing, I really think people are overplaying it, more than likely because you're trying to justify why you should get Liggins.
As has been said many times, Mackey may not make it to fall camp. Stoudt isn't likely to earn playing time. Plus they're both seniors. That leaves us with Brunetti and nothing else. We already signed one Juco QB that we originally tried to get to walk on. We're honoring the commitment of another that Nutt had lined up, one that likely won't produce anything and may have to transfer in a year or two. Then we're after Liggins, who is clearly the staff's number 1 priority for the position. That's it. When you look at the position, it's understandable how we got here. Same with tailback. By fall camp, we may not have a true tailback on our roster with significant playing experience if Jeff Scott keeps up his ways. Do you expect us to only sign 2 tailbacks to keep a balanced class? Of course not. We have to sign 3 or 4, or we may be converting DBs and WRs to TB midseason next year just to line up and play. You also have to consider the fact that our 2011 class didn't have a tailback in it. That leaves room for the 2012 class to try to balance out the gap in the 2011 class.
On the subject of balanced classes, you mention the fact that your OL may still be a little thin this fall. That's because Mullen didn't sign balanced classes his first couple years and left you a gap on the OL. It happens to everyone. On depth, isn't WR one of your weak spots? And you're signing 1 WR this year? Trust me, I'd rather have big uglies than anything in a class, but it's not like you can say your class is very balanced. No QBs yet, only 1 WR, no LBs. It may be addressing some of your biggest needs, but it's not balanced, and Mullen is going to have to make up for some of those gaps in next year's class.
