didn't show up for practice Tuesday.....he said he wasn't on the field or in the training room & nobody knew where he was. We've all been saying that he wasn't quite right in the head, and I guess this proves it.

Richards is a drunk. They said he has a hard time handling all of his responsibilities. Hell he just sound slike a typical college kid having fun at college and not so much on the football field.

....if a player is insistent upon being an asshat, there's not much a coach can do to keep said player from being an asshat.

Evidently he has some serious issues. I don't recall expecting so much from a kicker coming in to not seeing him contribute at all. Whatever is wrong with the asshat he should be cut and forget about him. He had a golden opportunity and really laid a huge turd. I thought he should have been gone after the LaTech game if he truly had an undisclosed, to the head coach, injury.

i can see what you are saying though. problem is we have a coach he tries to tell us he is so great in his assessment that he won't bring people onto the team with character issues.

my bad.

he can conceal it but the almighty crooms is all knowing.

the point i am trying to make is that this holier than thow **** that has been thrown around by croom for 5 years has gotten really damn old. he is no different from any other coach out there who has to try to control a bunch of young guys in college.

I see what you are saying, but even to crooms it seems a kicker is just a kicker. I mean, he should be able to get off his high horse and do something every now and then that is good for the team, unlike pulling a redshirt for a secret, one carry and 2 yard, weapon.

this guy was rated by ESPN as #3 place kicker and #5 combo kicker/punter in the country (high school) by another kicker website before he went out and broke his damn foot. i actually commend croom for picking the guy up. it's just too bad that he appears to be a damn moron. </p>

a complete moron. I've watched him warm up and he just always looked like he was a gimp. Always pulling up in pain. I think the guys is a complete kitty that needs to be shown the door to free up a scholarship for a real player. I can't blame Croom for this one. He brought the guy in and he has never performed. I'll be if you ask some players, they'll agree that he's a puss. We all jumped on Croom last year for getting the guy hurt. We'll, I'll bet it wasn't that bad of a hit and he's just, like I just said, a puss!

It seems like Richards's been suspended indefinitely ever since he signed scholarship papers with MSU.

i don't care that croom is kicking him off the team or suspending or whatever. it is the simple fact that he has been proclaimed to be a better judge of character than the rest of us dumb mississippians. he will clean up the program that jackie left behind. he will do things the right way by not bringing in pussies, gimps, or whatever you want to call them in the first place. but this isn't the case. he is just like the rest of the coaches except he does not win. we have had an equal amount if not more problemed players in the 5 years of croom as any 5 year period of jackie.

i like the guy getting the door. he has done nothing so far but sit on the bench and apparently cause problems off of the field too. i just simply do not like hearing that we don't bring people to our team with problems when this is clearly not the case.

No. We don't. Pull a C34 and produce arrest stats if you'd like. I don't care. For all of Croom's faults and mistakes, the players are much better citizens under him than they were at any time under JS.

because under sherrill, we always had guys shooting guns on campus, beating up cops at night clubs, etc. croom's boys would never do any of that.

we should wait until after his career. Then after that, the career arrest stats and how that washes out, we'll see when the career is over with.

when a player did **** like what Richards apparently did, they not only stayed on the team, they kept their starting job under Jackie.

At least Croom kicks them off or suspends them.

I wonder if Chris Relf can kick a ball because he apparently can't throw one.

but there are never any accompanying facts.

let's have some examples of what happened. i don't think as many major things happened on jackie's watch. and you've got to give me more than nick turner.

At least Croom kicks them off or suspends them.
there are other ways to punish that don't affect the team on saturday. extra running or bear crawling, cleaning up the locker rooms, etc. i think coaches should use those methods more than suspensions, and a quick boot may not be best for the player or the team - it depends on the circumstances.

in 03- Cody Upton. My family and his were good friends because my brother and I were good friends with his brother in Madison in high school.

Apparently one of our coaches wanted Tommy Kelly to do a drill of some sort and Kelly told the assistant coach to "<17> off" and left practice. He didn't show up again until it was time for the team to meet on Fri. for gameday on Sat. Guess who was in the starting lineup that Sat.? And guess who did nothing to Tommy Kelly?

According to this player, this was but one of many examples of this happening. The HC has to back up his assistants and not allow crap like that to happen.

And there's no telling how much of this was going on because it wasn't reported to the press.

And as far as how to discipline players, all I was saying is that at least Croom is doing SOMETHING. I think you would agree that doing nothing is just as destructive to the team as benching someone like Pegues.

i just didn't remember any specific stories from back then. thanks for providing one. i really wouldn't have expected anything less out of tommy kelly, but if that ball starts rolling, it's tough to make it right. and you're right - something has to be done about that, and it should have been suspension. the coaches have to be in total control of what happens in practice and on the field - that cannot be compromised.

i was thinking more about off-the field issues. as far as on-the-field and at practice, i'm sure this team 'has more character' than jackie's teams (esp. his late teams). but off the field, other than being a cocky jock, there weren't THAT many times that jackie's boys were in big trouble. croom's boys, on the other hand, when they get in trouble, it has seemed to be big trouble.
