Seems like a fairly easy thing to compromise on. You can limit the non-compete to a certain timeframe or replace it with a very large buyout.
Translation: She wants to be able to leave for Tennessee and Cohen wants to block that.

Exactly. Non-competes and huge buyouts are useless. If a coach wants to leave and that's the only thing keeping him/her at your school, you're going to be stuck with a coach who doesn't want to be here and isn't happy about it.I just don't think you can hold someone to a non-compete clause if you want the best. This isn't a marriage and til death do us part.
☝Yep. Make the buyout painful for the Vol Nation. Even at UT, I suspect Women’s basketball loses tons of money for the program. It may be important to some fans, but they will be hesitant to pay a large buyout when they are trying to get their football program back up from the abyss. Salary of $1 mil and a buyout of $2 mil should do it.

Yeah. If you think she's the one, you don't lose this deal over that. Never be afraid to hire the best coach because you think he/she might do well and leave.
Contract is limited to 4 years. She already wants wiggle room to TN in her first 1-4 years here.I just don't think you can hold someone to a non-compete clause if you want the best. This isn't a marriage and til death do us part.
Very excited to get NM-P if this holds true. Not the extended track record/resume as a HC as Walz, but she took over an OD program that was in much worse shape than Walz did, and not able to recruit as well at OD as was possible at UL. She appears to have made a HUGE impact on OD. They play great defense, but also improved their offense significantly under her.
Imagine what she wil be able to do with the recruits & support she will get here. Also, she spent 10 years on Staley's staff, and was teammates with DS on the national team. That could prove very useful for us when playing them & recruiting against them.
My favorite part is that she was on Dawn Staley's staff at South Carolina from 2008 (Staley's first year at USC) until 2017 (the season they beat us for the national championship).
It goes without saying that Staley is a highly-successful coach during her reign at USC. And McCray-Penson was there for 9 seasons watching and learning.
Hopefully, NM-P will be able to hold our team together and quickly take us to even greater heights.
Interesting stat: overall, Vic Schaefer was 3-12 against Dawn Staley's South Carolina teams. That's almost complete domination.
After spending 9 seasons with Staley at USC, maybe NM-P can help us learn how to beat them on a regular basis.
Unbiased officiating alone would make that a lot more even. How many times has helmet-head & her crew screwed us with them? After spending 9 seasons with Staley at USC, maybe NM-P can help us learn how to beat them on a regular basis.
