what open shots beside the early one where Cam got faked out
They had some open shots.....not a ton, but enough for the coach to be mad most of them didn't fall.
He said it himself, part of the reason was likely due to our strong defense, and the added pressure of having to make a shot when they finally did have a clean look at the net...but he also called his players "Soft" in that respect as well.

If Penn State made ten 3 pointers ,I doubt the same comments would have been made. His frustration is placed on the defense rather than the missed shots on offense.

Definitely not a good dude.
Saying those things to your guys in the locker room is one thing. Saying them to a camera after that is a whole different ball game.
It's like family. At home you can fight like cats and dogs. But, out in the street you stick up for yours not matter what. Sort out right and wrong when you get home.
Guy is a dick and fits right in at State Penn.
Totally agree. I’m glad that Pike doesn’t talk that way.

He actually criticized his players for missing 3 point shots on the road in a hostile arena.

Dont you think the players were trying to make every shot?

Point of fact, I just sent out an email to the parents of 3rd-4th grade rec basketball team admonishing their children for their lack of hustle on rebounds, their shoddy zone defense, and their pudgy, out of shape wheezing (too many video games!) As for my own son, I made him sleep in the shed because he went 0-4 from the line.

That should light a fire under them!
OMG!!! You should be ashamed of yourself as a coach, and your outdated methods suggest total incompetency... It's common knowledge that the way to go when prompt inspiration is needed, especially for a youth athletic team, is to invest in a top of the line cattle prod.

The fact that it's a WRSU kid that asked the last question that really sent him over the edge 🤣

Think he has done a great job overall as a coach and certainly loved his candor vs. coach speak.

However interesting question is doesn't he think his intended style of play, as a byproduct leads to a "soft team"? His design is playing 4 sometimes 5 guards, focused on shooting 3 point shots, very few offensive rebounds. A "small" team who stays outside and shoots threes left and right. It is likely the best strategy for his team, but it will not lead to a team who wants to play physical and tough.

Oh stop . These guys are semipro athletes and have heard a lot of stuff and yelled at plenty of times.
I don't disagree with ripping the guys lack of effort in the locker room. I'm talking about his presser.

Got news for you.
Grown men don't appreciate being **** on in public any less than kids.
We'll see how it works out for him.

I have no idea how PSU will respond but he’s a very highly regarded coach who will move up to a bigger program within the next 1-3 years.

He drew up some nice plays but the balls weren’t going in. It happens sometimes. I’m not a fan of calling out anyone publicly unless they do something stupid, like an off field incident or bad personal foul. Keep it in the locker coach.

Will be interesting to see how PSU responds at home on Sunday vs Michigan, who lost at home to Purdue last night.

Say whatever he wants in the locker room but it was poor form to say the same things in the post game presser. And then he abruptly walks out after complaining that his shooter only got 2 FT attempts.

I hope that PSU gets hammered at home by Michigan.

Totally agree. Imagine you have a lackluster day at work and your boss brings you in front of all your co-workers and calls you soft and not a grown man?
Might be effective with 1% of people, everyone else is looking for another job or just miserable.

Good for him. I don't wish bad on the guy.
I will say that this guy would never work for me or coach anyone I would have any influence with.
This guy will be out front beating his chest when things go well. I guarantee that. But you just saw what he does when things go south. He points fingers and yells "wasn't me!" . It was those sissy players we have.😂😂😂
Like I said in my first post, he fits right in @ State Penn.

After calling all his guys pu$$ys?
Are you the guy that says "with all due respect" before completely disrespecting someone and thinks they buy it?
Bless your heart.
You're defending the indefensible. Very PSU of you.
The defenders here, dost protest too much.
Good coach or not, the guy is a dick.

Good people lose control of their emotions and do things they might regret later.
I'll give Shrewsberry the benefit of the doubt. He hasn't been at Penn St that long.

Shrewsberry knew what message he needed to convey to his team after our game. Good coach. Hope he takes the Notre Dame job.

So yeah I’d say he knows how to his coach team. He pushed all the right buttons after our game.

His son and his son's best friend are both highly rated and imcoming freshman. Our one hope that that they all don't hit the portal. He is establishing something with the fanbase. The AD needs to invest in hoops finally.

PSU in our game was coached great. They had about 10 wide open 3s. About 1 of them went in. That is great coaching, playcalling, just bad luck/shooting. Now they are shooting normal and it’s a total blowout. We got very lucky to catch them on a bad day

They are on pace to score 90+ points. Not normal

I like Shrewsberry too but the Big Ten has 12-13 very good to great coaches. PSU has a senior lead team that finished 10th in the big ten regular season. Now, that wasn’t as bad as it sound’s because every team in the middle of the big ten was all close to finishing in 2nd place. They are playing their best right now which is great timing for them. Expect him to leave because PSU is going to have a big drop off next year if his seniors are out of eligibility.

He is not a bull shidder. When he speaks you don't typically get the standard generic coach stuff ie. "We need to do a better job of scoring the basketball". You can actually learn something from him as he will drop wisdom that is very pertinent to that specific game.

Wherever he ends up will be glad to have him and hopefully not in the BIG.

Pike is still my guy, a boon to RU and also building something great with his own style.
