Just conjecture here, but is part of the issue the Big Ten’s excessive waiting period protocol? I know the CDC dropped their quarantine period down, and my girlfriend (a COVID ICU nurse who is fairly pro-caution with this stuff, obviously) said that was long overdue (i.e., not that they should have done it sooner, necessarily, but that we’ve known that for a while). She was also saying that once someone is symptom-free AFTER having had it, even if they test positive again, they are unlikely to spread it.
In her words ... “I mean the possibility is there, but the odds are low enough that we can’t really structure the running of society around aversion to statistically negligent risk. At that point, we’re just giving up on ever having normal life again, and that’s not worth it.” None of that is to say each INDIVIDUAL shouldn’t be as cautious as he wants, of course ... strictly talking about rules.
