So what?? It’s just sexual abuse. Rutgers forced its athletes to run 100-yard sprints! The horrors! It’s not like an athlete would ever run in a game situation. And when they didn’t run fast, they were yelled at. Can you believe that? The worst part of all? They weren’t consoled and given a participation trophy after their jogs.

Rutgers isn’t using the metric system! 5 year scholarship ban in all sports!

Rutgers will probably name a building after them.

"The university has paid more than $100 million to people who said they were abused by Sandusky." makes the cost to RU for some lawsuits look like an ant hill--heck we can build the indoor football facility for that kind of money--- sadly shows how flush PSU is with $ compared to RU--guess what the media and trenton would do with those headlines

Just a light trot say you? Perhaps a meandering? A light stroll in the meadows?
My point was the distance between the bases is 30 yards, so there isn't a whole lot of opportunity to sprint 100 yards in a game.

I too assumed it was 30 yards ‘tween bases like a baseball diamond. In fact, it’s only 20 yards. So home base to home base is only 80 yards.

Holy smokes. Butler and her coaches made the girls run 20% farther than they ever would in a game situation. Strength and conditioning principles would never call for this. Sorry for being an ahole. Something just stinks with this whole complaint. If you are remotely active and not pushing 80 like every other cooter on this forum and cleared by a doctor to complete physical exercise...go to your local high school football field or track. Do 100 yards in under 17 seconds and see if it’s so taxing. These are supposed to be D1 pre-elite athletes. Maybe Butler was appalled by the lackadaisical approach to conditioning which undoubtedly played a factor in the team’s former losing ways. For eff’s sakes, no post-season since 1996??!? What, are they aspiring to break the men’s basketball record? Too much time apparently in the Cracker Barrel or whatever place it was and not enough time conditioning.

Sad story that keeps on going. This is what happens when people look the other way and have too much respect for authority figures.

You forget coaches also hit ground balls at them.

In softball it's only 20 yards. Players never sprint 100 yards in a game.
Players can sprint 80 yds while cutting the bases. It is not about just sprinting, it is conditioning to be in game shape. These players all grew up playing tournament softball. You could play as many as 4 or 5 games on s Sunday if you made it to finals. Conditioning was needed to be able to perform at a high level. Skills and fundamentals erode in poorly conditioned players as they tire.

Your point about not needing to run 100 yd sprints because home to first is only 20 is just plain silly. My one daughter used to swim 3000-4000 meters a day in practice. She was primarily a sprinter rarely swimming more than 100. Using you logic she should only swam a 100 in practice.

Wait ... the most I did in a race was 400m ... how dare the coach ask us to do 5 mile runs, or run 600m or 800m intervals. I missed out!

The PSU administration allowed the worst scandal in sports history to occur and somehow managed to turn it into an “us against the world” situation, where they act like they were the victim.

The Rutgers administration allowed a hard nosed softball coach to discipline her players and it turned into this.

Hey who says Nitters can't learn. At least they're investigating this time, while Rutgers freaks out over wind sprints. My son threw up during practice with his high school swim team as did most of his teammates. Little did I know that this was the equivalent of sexual harrassment.

Kind of sucks that when you search Schiano in google, “Jerry Sandusky” is the first query listed under: “People also search for...”

No. They don’t cover PSU.

You are such a turd. What is the point in writing two responses to posts criticizing the SL. Why even bother to defend them, even if you are technically correct.

As an aside, for not covering PSU, they seem to divorced, blish more than enough "feel good" stories about them.

I respond to people I disagree with, or if they ask a question I’ll answer if I know.

It’s ridiculous to criticize the SL or NJ.com for not writing about this. They don’t cover the team

Maybe it is. But its not like you counter every wrong fact stated on here. So why not let misplaced criticisms of a news outlet go? Defending the Star-Ledger and NJ Advance from undeserved or unwarranted criticism is a very strange mantle to take up on these boards. You may as well be one of the PSU guys on here telling us Paterno didn't know.
