Not true. Would rather spend money on a 20-22 year old with 2 years of S&C under their belt than 18-19 year old that won’t see the field for 2-3 years or at all. Pay 2 years vs 5.
Also most of the reported NIL numbers are way over reported. Need someone to come in and manage the roster design. Because this and last year were awful.

I would say a mix of freshmen and portal transfers would be better

the first comment I agree with - Penn State totally screwed this up. starting with firing Franklin after a few losses. after constantly keeping them in the NC hunt. As much as think the guy is a total douchebag - he could recruit!!! They are gonna have a very hard time finding someone better - particularly now that they have demonstrated how delusional they are as an institution.

they second part I dont agree with - as much as a wish it to be true. Penn State was recruiting TOP NOTCH TALENT up until this class - how is Penn State not relevant and uncool? again, as much as WANT that to be true, the recruiting success they have had with Franklin proves that utterly false.

with all the above said - I am truly loving this right now

I'd say Penn St. was both relevant and cool for instate recruits.

A lot of players want the interim coach.
I'm thinking why did they swing and miss on their first 2, or is it 3 or 4?
Think Brian Kelly is damaged goods and toxic, and that' why, but you can't argue with his record, even though LSU ended badly. Very similar fanbases with unrealistic expectations.

and just last year they were 3 points short of going to the NC game and finished with 13 wins.

and then fire their coach midway through the following season after a couple bad loses (cant even count Oregon as a bad loss).

its utterly insane... and I hate Franklin but the results speak for themselves.

this debacle is 100% due to the complete delusion of their fan base and administration. totally delusional and bungled.

...and again, I'm loving it
Going to have to say that there is a shitload more that went on behind the scenes

even more evidence that they bungled this whole thing

so you’re saying the firing wasn’t a spur of the moment thing based on the few loses but that there other “issues” going on longer term

if so - that doesn’t actually change my opinion - delusional thinking they could easily replace him and a total f$&k-up to fire the coach mid-season like that without a replacement lined up.

it’s a Rutgers-level f$@k up …. Except with success involved

3 of the last 4 LSU coaches have won National Championships. There's at least a reason for their unrealistic expectations. Penn State is 0 for the 21st century in that category.

Matt Campbell trending on X, none of the below are conclusions, but why would Matt Campbell leave stability for lunacy in Happy Valley?

He's crazy if he leaves Iowa State to go to Penn State.
You draw a good distinction between PSU and LSU. LSU has been there. PSU is chasing it. Thought the mid-season firing of Franklin was too reactionary- but he was there for 11 years, and in their delusional world they thought he had his chance to achieve the holy grail and he did not do so. Hope they suffer immensely.

I hate Penn st but can’t they somehow pull a big hire out of their a$$ and then that coach can grab 50 kids in the portal ???
I’ll wait to fully pounce like Sandusky on new camp member until coach is named

It’s an incredible fall considering they were ranked #2 in the country just 3 months ago
I believe when Greg left us and we had our usual coach search, finally settled on Flood..... We kept our entire verballed class
Maybe one defection

Greg went to the NFL & didn't take 10+ kids with him the way Franklin just did, poaching kids to VT.

But you're right, we didn't get a lot of kids decimmitting.

So the rep is they're deranged for firing Franklin but our fans think people would understand firing GS for going 5-7?

Is your premise that Rutgers fans shouldn't hold Schiano to a higher standard than 5-7 (2-7)?

That's fine.
But just seems to be an interesting defense of Schiano and his abilities as a coach.
"He's a great coach. We're lucky to have him. Mediocrity should be acceptable."

RU would be lucky to have a coach that could produce winning records in conference.

But that kind of logic amongst fans and donors will hold Rutgers back from taking the next step up. Mediocrity is OK- we have excuses...... a growing list of them. The only thing keeping Greg here right now is the enormous buyout and a stated (and perhaps purported) willingness to see how he will do with more "resources" (both revenue sharing money and NIL money) to buy better players. There are very few on this board advocating for him to get fired right now. There are more who would consider 7 wins in a regular season or 8 wins including a bowl to be a major success and hopefully and indication that the program is on the right trajectory.

Watched a segment on the BTN this morning that was a replay from yesterday about Illinois' stellar recruiting class, which included a stud offensive lineman from Toms River (Sitkowski visited him last fall). The basic thrust is that with 10-3 last season and 8-4 this season and 3 years of winning B1G records, Illinois is showing consistency that the program has reached another level.

Maybe 2025 was a slight step backward, and we all hope that 2026 is a giant step forward. Time will tell. Onward, upward.

Today's Until Saturday e-mail from The Athletic:

"Scott Dochterman and Grace Raynor: On a scale of 1 (sell the stadium) to 10 (nbd), how worried should Penn State fans be right now?

  • Scott: "Unless the Nittany Lions have their coach lined up in clandestine fashion, it's optimistic to even give it a 2. This disaster will impact the program for the next five years."
  • Grace: "I’d say a 2 for the number of recruits the Nittany Lions signed yesterday. They do have a quarterback in four-star Peyton Falzone, but sheesh." "

This all depends on who they get as a coach. They played this hire horribly wrong. Classic example of them thinking they have a higher standing in the hierarchal landscape than they actually do. But if they get someone that can attract in the portal not signing a high school class will have little effect.
Not sure why programs take as many as they do from high school. Outside of can’t miss blue chip the value prop is just not there.
USC signed 35 High School recruits & WVU signed 46!

Cool. Obviously both rosters git decimated and need to be rehauled. Spoke with a buddy over Thanksgiving that coached at UMd now runs a speed performance group. We both discussed how rosters need to be constructed. Rosters need to be set up back heavy. 15,15, 70 in years 3-5. Can’t use up too much resources on 1-2 and 5.

That's a fake account with 68 followers.

But apparently Campbell and PSU are talking. No deal yet, if there will be one, who knows?

That OL that signed with Illinois was the 3rd ranked recruit in NJ.
Interesting RU had no Top 20 NJ Recruits signing on this Class.
Four B1G programs had recruits commit from the Top 10 NJ rankings.

Let's see how I feel about the State Penn situation.......................

State Penn is State Penn, they will get the recruits and win 8-9 games. The problem is that think they are elite, their ceiling is a really good football team
