Personally, I am a Syracuse legacy (both parents Syracuse graduates), a Pitt graduate (2 degrees) and a Rutgers parent (and former season ticket holder). Penn State is an enemy at all 3 locations. I suspect the typical Rutgers fan doesn’t realize how much Syracuse hates Penn State. Nevertheless, I will be on the Penn State campus for 3 days next week. I was there just once before, but didn’t see much.

Recommendations please, primarily for good restaurants, bars, historical or fun things to see, hiking trails, etc.

Maybe try asking on the Penn State board?

You should shower every hour while there, just make sure that Sandusky isn't lurking nearby.

I actually love these responses, I have disliked Penn State wherever I have been and always will, and unlike some disillusioned guy suggested, I would never ask Penn State fans to talk about Penn State

Wear this around campus and one of the "fun things to see," will be the faces of those around you there

Ottos brewpub is decent. The deli if it’s still open has a good beer selection. Ottos is on 26 outside downtown a little. There is a place on the other side called new york something that has really pretty good German food if you’re into that. The Waffle House has good breakfast. The tavern is pretty good. The creamery ice cream is good. There is a historical town called bellafonte but have never actually stopped there. There are state parks all around state college that I would imagine have decent views on hiking trails. etc.
