It's really unbelievable. Cal is just helping friends at this point instead of getting the best people for the job. For a program like UK to have such a weak and boring staff is pretty amazing.
And for you to be such a boring and weak poster is not amazing.

Not to rain when it pours.. but KP leaving for the Knicks could be a problem in 2-3 years, when Thibs is inevitably fired because the players hate him and the team is still losing. IMO, whoever the Knicks hired was just a placeholder for a few years (although Thibs is probably the best they could have asked for)

Cal has a great opportunity on the horizon: Past assistant on the Knicks, currently two UK players there, 7 1st round picks in the next 4 years..

And you can believe the Knicks know full well of this also. Cal is intrigued by the NBA, and we know the Knicks have shown similar interest.

It does no good to complain. Cal is the boss and the boss hires who he wants. We might as well welcome Bruiser with open arms and hope for the best.

Ugh, Bruisers coming in to replace Kenny. Talk about a step down.

So many great choices out there and he brings in Bruiser. Hopefully if Barbee leaves, Cal goes and get Coach O back.

That's true, but it's worth noting the Knicks really don't need to sign any FA. Whether by design or not, they created a scenario where they can either build through the next 3-4 drafts, or trade those picks away for current players. Kinda smart. They know they can't get FAs in their current state, so they said "screw it, we'll force players here". And getting them into the 40-win range would change things around. Top coaches will look at their potential, and think they could revitalize the Knicks..

Not sure if it will work lol. But they are in a very intriguing position.

I see Cal winning 2 out of the next 5 championships, and then we say Kenny who?
Just maybe, Kenny was holding Cal back.

Good luck to KP. Genuinely a great man, leader and coach. Wouldn’t be upset to see him back on our sideline sometime in the future.

The rumors pop up every year, which at the very least shows some interest on both sides. All an NBA team needs is two star type players and they have a chance to compete for a title. College basketball has a LOT of question marks in the future.. so why not take a stab at the NBA for a few years?

This forum has a handful of miserable crybabies on it that only feel alive when they are trashing Cal or our team. Sad life.

Bring Kenny back when Cal decides to hang it up. He will have experience as an assistant in the NBA and he will be familiar with UK being an assistant here for 10 years

I dont believe cal is equipped to win when it counts at the nba level in serious playoff basketball. The two star players may be great but you need you next 7 or 8 guys to board, play D, make the next pass, make shots. NBA you gotta draft/cant miss the stud players, rarely are you gonna get a primetime player in free agency because the system is set up for incumbent team to pay most.
Where do you see Cal at NBA, would he really want to partner with dolan if thibs rose and www couldnt make them a winner?

Offer Mike Miller an additonal million over what he was making at Memphis.. If not him, then offer whoever the top 5 assistants are the same thing. Time to flex our muscle.

Just please no "friendship"-type hires.
In times like these, there may not be any more money and my guess is KP was looking at a pay cut at UK. I seriously doubt there's millions to throw at assisstants. I'd rather expect Stoops and Cal to take cuts, too. Love KP, but the Knicks must have found some cash between the couch cushions.

It's not so much if I, myself, think he can win there. It's what he thinks. And while yes, you need a complete team to win the title.. you just need those 2 guys to make the playoffs. And NY is going to have quite a few plays to get those guys. The NBA has the least "requirements" to be in contention. It's not like MLB or the NFL.

I also think Cal has some great qualities for the NBA. He's a players coach, and that always works. The NBA relies less on it's staff to be great X's and O's guys, at least compared to college. In some ways I think he fits the NBA a bit better than college.

I would say NFL gives the fairest chance to make a postseason each year. I would argue xs and os and defensive schemes are more important in playoff basketball. As good as lebron and ad are, if the other guys cant shoot offense will be stagnant and hard to score.

I miss the days when we had guys like O and Strickland on the bench. Now Payne too. Ain't no one coming in here trying to poach Robic or Barbee LOL. Can't blame Kenny though. I'm not sure it's a step up, but it's long overdue.
